Hello Brothers & Sisters!
Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Yes, I missed this letter for last three months with some good reasons.
VBS and some other ministries with those local churches and visiting mission teams have happened in June and July.
Very fruitful, joyful, and thankful ministries such as VBSs, carpentry works, and paintings have been done without any serious incident.
Thank and Praise our good Father in heaven!
But the same effort belongs to us to go on without ceasing in those local churches at regular base to make sure our youngsters will know, focus on, learning from, follow after, and serve our Lord Jesus Christ.
One article that I have written and having here is my suggestions for VBS ministries.
It was intended for those mission teams but the basics are for everybody; particularly those local leaders and Sunday School leaders.
So, please read and share it together.
Meanwhile, I have very important two announcements to share with you as following.
1. Ministry Study Meeting Again
When: Sep 16 (Sat) 2017, 10:00-13:00(DST)
(Lunch will be provided.)
Where: Discipleship Center in Tuba City
We will talk together how we do our ministries for those youngsters with what materials and equipments.
Also, some materials and equipments are waiting for those who's going to maximize the use of them for fruitful ministries.
Three more newly published and whole set of Superbook Series DVDs will be distributed to those who already have those previously published DVDs and who need them all.
So, please come, join, and share together.
2. Lease has been delivered!
We now, as of Aug 15, have the Lease Contract of the building site for our awaited Tuba City project, First People Youth Academy- Martial Arts (Disciplinary Physical Education) Based After-School Tutorial Program.
It means, now I have to begin the construction process as fund being available.
Even though many & much things should be done but now we can see a piece of cloud on the other side of the sky that, eventually will bring the graceful rainy reality to us.
I thank God and many more people who've been showing their trust, support, and encouragement.
Please keep on being my wisdom and courage.
Here I am having my suggestions how we do not only VBS but every week children/youth ministries.
Until we see again, Peace of God be with you.
VBS Suggestions
by Rev. James Young Lee
Importance & Task of VBS:
Many local kids lose a very important part of their lives due to a lack of healthy self-esteem and the needed support from the circle of their lives.
We have to do our best to let Jesus be their Lord in their life and faith.
VBS is a very small but precious window of opportunity to bring these kids to Jesus so that they will see, focus on, learn from, and serve Jesus in various ways as they were called to be and to do by our heavenly Father.
Strategy (How):
We have to teach the kids that the Bible, as it tells us about who God and Jesus are, is everything of our life and faith.
We have to let them familiarized with the Bible by telling them what the Bible is, how many testaments are in, and what the names of the sixty-six books are.
Teaching them about and, even better, having them memorize its contents ought to be the most important first step of their life-long journey of Christian Life in the written Word of God.
Therefore, we not only supply age-appropriate Bible (for me, the 365 Read Aloud Bedtime Bible Stories, or some other similar) but also use the material as the main textbook during the VBS time so that they will continue to read and learn in individual families and homes, as well as in their local church Sunday Schools.
We can make this an annual (or more frequent) routine where we can check their progress and support the ongoing effort by rewarding achievers with healthy and educational rewards.
Class Details:
Select appropriate songs and messages for main sessions.
Divide classes according to age.
Another option is to their knowledge and maturity in the Christian faith.
Share the teachings about the Bible individually.
READ the textbook and TALK about it together so that they will learn how they to do it on their own in their homes and churches.
They will, eventually, be able to do this with the regular Bible in their own later times.
Be Consistent!
Living the Christian life according to the written Word of God ought to be a life-long journey for every Christian; young or old, child or adult, male or female.
When the kids learn and do this, everything else in their lives is between the Lord and themselves.
Be Focused!
VBS is not for fun or for the temporary affection for the kids.
Only Jesus can last in their lives regardless of their life situations- dark or bright, mountain or valley, barren or fertile, difficult or easy.
Some additional thoughts:
Do not ask them if they had fun; instead ask them if they learned anything.
Motivate them not with cheap treats but rather with genuine encouragement to learn for the joy of learning itself.
You can still reward them with novel praise and appropriately healthy and educational rewards, but it is preferred that this be what the least expect.
Be Creative!
The aforementioned methods are simple suggestions.
You are the chef and cook to make the beautiful and delicious dishes with simple ingredients.
Games and crafts are supports to the main purpose.
REMEMBER.
They are kids.
You have to know how they think and act, and should be like one of them.
Need wisdom? Ask Him.
God bless those who are faithful in their belief and obedience.
