a whole awful lot,
엄청나게 많은 무더기
당신 같은 사람이 정말 많이 신경 쓰지 않는 한, 아무것도 나아질 수 없을 거예요.
What’s the meaning of “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not”?
It means that unless a caring person, such as yourself comes along, things are going to stays as the bad as they are now
“unless…” means “*if* it is *not true* that…”; “a whole awful lot” seems to mean “a great deal” or “tremendously” or “enormously.”
the quote means that someone of your caring quality is greatly needed in order for the situation to improve.

things can get better
“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not” - Dr. Seuss. The reason for wanting to become a VOF correspondent - as Dr. Seuss simply puts it – is so that “things can get better”
This line is spoken by the Once-ler in the book The Lorax, written by Dr. Seuss (1971). The Lorax is the book that anti-environmentalists don't want you to know about. An industrialist called the Once-ler has basically destroyed the environment and run off a rare creature, the Lorax, who left behind only a stone that says "UNLESS" on it in really big letters. So what does that mean? Well, at the end of the book, The Once-ler gives us his interpretation: "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." In other words, the Once-ler screwed up. Big time. And it's up to us to fix things. An industrialist who regrets his actions and actually thinks about correcting the damage he's done? Yep, this is fiction.
