1. Prosecutors are investigating the bank accounts of former President Moon Jae-in and his wife in reagrds to allegations that his son-in-law received a special advantage in hiring process.
According to local media Yonhap News, the Jeonju District Prosecutor issued a search and warrant to track the financial accounts of former president and his wife Kim Jeong-sook.
The prosecutors reportedly are trying to determine the extent to which the former president couple assisted their daughter’s family financially.
The investigation comes four years after a criminal complaint was filed regarding the Seo’s unfair admission.
The People Power Party lodged the indictment to prosecutors in September 2020, criticizing Seo’s appointment as executive director of Easter Jet, a low-cost airplane established by Lee Sang-jik, who was appointed head of the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency in March 2018, just few months before seo’s employment.
Prosecutors are attempting to determine whether Lee’s appointment was given with the expectation of some reciprocity or not.
2. The leaders of South Korea, the United States and Japan will announce a joint statement to commemorate the first anniversary of the Camp David summit.
“We are preparing for a joint statement that will revel the intent of establishing cooperative system, and shared concerns about the future cooperation,” said a presidential official.
The joint statement is expected to celebrate the first anniversary of joint statement while while stably maintain the trilateral cooperation.
IT could also be seen as an effort to continue the cooperation among three countries ahead of possible political change.
The two countries are also expected to support President Yoon Suk Yeol’s new unification doctorine announced during Liberation Day.
