The 100th on the LPGA Tour by Koreans

Choi fired a three-under 68 in the final round at the par-71 Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, for the four-round total of 15-under. She fended off world No. 1 Yani Tseng of Taiwan, who shot the lowest round of Sunday with a six-under 65 but ended one shot behind her Korean rival.

Last week, Tseng beat Choi to win the LPGA Hana Bank Championship in South Korea. The LPGA Tour is in the midst of its annual Asian swing.

Choi took a one-shot lead into the final round but had an early hiccup with a double bogey on the par-4 second hole. But she was flawless the rest of the way, picking up five birdies with no bogeys.

Tseng's final round included seven birdies, including three on the back nine, but she still came up shy of her seventh victory this year.

Choi's win was the 100th on the LPGA Tour by Koreans or Korean-American players. Ku Ok-hee became the first Korean-born winner on the LPGA in 1988.

Pak Se-ri, the only South Korean member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, leads all Koreans with 25 wins. Korean-Americans such as Michelle Wie and Pearl Sinn have also found the winner's circle on the LPGA Tour.

최나연, 한국에 LPGA 100승 안겨

최나연(24•SK텔레콤)이 고대하던 미국여자프로 골프(LPGA) 투어 한국(계) 선수 통산 100승을 채우며 한국여자골프군단의 에이스로 우뚝 섰다.

신지애, 송보배, 박희영, 안선주, 이선화 등 한국여자프로골프의 쟁쟁한 선수들 과 경쟁하며 실력을 키워온 최나연은 중학교 3학년 때인 2003년 국가대표로 선발됐다.

2004년 ADT캡스 인비테이셔널에서 선배들을 누르고 우승을 차지하면서 일약 스타로 떠올랐다.

특히 최나연은 이 대회에서 한국 여자골프의 최고 스타인 박세리(32)를 제치고 정상에 오르면서 스포트라이트를 받았다.
