대속의 능력

벧전1:18-19“너희가 알거니와 너희 조상이 물려 준 헛된 행실에서 대속함을 받은 것은 은이나 금 같이 없어질 것으로 된 것이 아니요 오직 흠 없고 점 없는 어린 양 같은 그리스도의 보배로운 피로 된 것이니라”

추석은 온 가족이 함께 모여 하나님과 조상의 은혜를 기리는 민족 최대의 명절입니다. 명절이면 찾아갈 곳도 없고, 찾아오는 이도 없는 외로운 사람들이 있습니다.

“내가 너희를 사랑한 것 같이 너희도 서로 사랑하라” 요13:34 

예수님 말씀처럼 자기 목숨 다해 서로 사랑하며 살아갈 때, 더 이상 외로움에 사로잡히는 일이 없는 사회 공동체를 이루게 될 것입니다.

그리스도의 피로 대속함을 받았다는 말씀은 교회에서 매우 중요한 교리입니다. 대속의 은혜를 힘입지 않고서는 아무리 발버둥쳐도 죄와 사망의 권세에서 벗어날 길이 없기 때문입니다. “그리스도 예수 안에 있는 생명의 성령의 법이 죄와 사망의 법에서 너를 해방하였음이라”

  롬8:2

“아들이 너희를 자유롭게 하면 너희가 참으로 자유로우리라” 요8:36

오직 흠 없고 점 없는 어린 양 같은 그리스도의 보배로운 피로 대속함을 받은 사람들은 망령된 옛 삶을 청산하고 새로운 삶의 길로 나아갑니다.

“너희가 본래 죄의 종이더니 너희에게 전하여 준 바 교훈의 본을 마음으로 순종하여 죄로부터 해방되어 의에게 종이 되었느니라” 롬6:17-18 

대속의 은혜로 하나님께서 우리를 지으신 본래의 목적대로 살아가게 되었습니다.

대속의 은혜란 그리스도께서 피를 흘리심으로써 우리가 단지 죄사함 받게 된 것으로 끝나지 않습니다.

“그가 우리를 흑암의 권세에서 건져내사 그의 사랑의 아들의 나라로 옮기셨으니 그 아들 안에서 우리가 속량 곧 죄 사함을 얻었도다” 골1:13-14 

우리의 삶의 자리가 바뀌어진 것입니다. 믿는 자는 더 이상 세상에 속해 있지 않습니다. (요17:16)

아무리 세상이 발전하고 자유로운 세상이 되어도 온 세상은 악한 자 안에 처해 있습니다. 세상에 있는 것들을 탐내고 부러워하며 자랑스럽게 여기는 것은 아직도 우리가 옛 사람의 삶의 자리에 머물러 있다는 증거입니다.

“하나님의 나라는 말에 있지 아니하고 능력에 있음이라” 고전4:20 

살아계신 하나님의 말씀이 인간의 생명없는 교리로 전락하고 있습니다.

“내가 저 ‘사도중에 지극히 작은 자’(고전 15:9)인 바울의 글을 읽을 때 이런 생각들이 내 장부에 이상하게 치밀어 들어왔습니다. --이제 당신의 말씀은 내 심장(마음)의 밑바닥에 굳게 박혀졌고, 당신은 나를 사방으로 둘러싸고 계셨습니다.” (고백록 241, 245쪽)

마침내 말씀이 어거스틴의 장부와 횡경막과 심포를 지나 심장 안으로 들어갔습니다.

가슴에 박힌 말씀은 언제 어디서나 우리 마음을 주장합니다. 내 마음을 떠나 살지 못하듯 말씀을 떠나서 살지 못합니다.

“너희는 우리로 말미암아 나타난 그리스도의 편지니 이는 먹으로 쓴 것이 아니요 오직 살아계신 하나님의 영으로 쓴 것이며” 고후3:3 

우리의 마음판에 하나님의 영으로 기록된 말씀은 우리 일생을 주관합니다.

어떤 자리에서든지 항상 대속의 은혜 가운데 살아갑니다. 자기 마음대로 사는 인생이 아니라 점점 말씀에 붙쟙혀 사는 인생이 됩니다. 우리가 평소 주님의 은혜에 감사하며 살아가지 못함은 대속의 은혜가 우리 가슴 깊이 박히지 못하고 다만 머리로 아는 지식으로 머물러 있어서 무의식적으로는 옛 사람으로 살아가고 있기 때문입니다.

교회에서 대속의 은혜는 강조되고 있지만 우리는 대속의 능력을 잃어버린지 오래입니다. 하나님의 말씀을 받아서 알게 해주는 주체가 내주하시는 성령이 아니라 우리 자아가 되었기 때문입니다. 성령의 은혜와 능력이 아니고서는 대속의 은혜와 능력을 체험할 자가 없습니다. 용서와 감사와 사랑이 식어버린 교회는 “아이를 낳으려 하나 해산할 힘이 없음같이” 이 세상을 이길 힘이 없습니다.             2023. 9. 30 장기옥 목사 드림

The power of redemption

1Peter1:18-19“knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”

Chuseok is the nation's biggest holiday where the whole family gathers together to thank to the grace of God and to celebrate the grace of their ancestors. During the holidays, there are many lonely people who have nowhere to go and have no one to visit themselves. “You love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”John 13:34 As Jesus said, when we love one another with all our lives, we will have a community where we will no longer be held captive by loneliness.

The word redeemed by the blood of Christ is a very important doctrine in the Church. Without the grace of the redemption, no matter how hard we struggle, there is no way to escape the power of sin and death. "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death" (Romans 8:2) "If the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed" John 8:36

Only those who have been redeemed by the precious blood of Christ, like a lamb without blemish or spot, liquidate their aimless old life of vanity and embark on a new way of life. "though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.“ Rom.6:17-18 By the grace of the redemption, we are able to live according to the original purpose for which God created us.

The grace of redemption is not completed only with the shedding of Christ's blood for the forgiveness of our sins. "He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins." Col.1:13-14 He has changed the place in our lives. The believer is no longer belonging to the world. (John 17:16)

No matter how much the world develops and becomes a free world, the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one. Coveting, envying, and being proud of the things in the world is evidence that we are still stuck in our old place in life. "The kingdom of God is not in word, but in power" 1Cor.4:20 God's living word of redemption has been deteriorated to the man's lifeless doctrine of redemption.

"When I read the words of Paul, 'the least of the apostles' (1Cor.15:9), these thoughts came to my bowels in a strange way. --Now your words are firmly embedded in the bottom of my heart, and you surround me on all sides." (Confessions, pp. 241, 245) Finally, the Word passed through Augustine's bowels, diaphragm, and outer wall of heart and finally into his heart.

The words that are embedded in our hearts govern our minds anytime and anywhere. Just as I cannot live apart from my mind, I cannot live apart from the Word. "You are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God,“ 2Cor.3:3 The word written in the Spirit of God on the tablets of our hearts governs our whole lives.

No matter where you are, you always live in the grace of the redemption. Instead of living a life of one's own accord, it becomes a life that is increasingly compelled by the Word. The reason why we do not usually live in gratitude for the Lord's grace is because the grace of the redemption is not deeply embedded in our hearts, but remains in the knowledge of our heads, and we are unconsciously living our aimless old life of vanity.

The grace of the redemption is emphasized in the Church, but it is already a long time since we have lost the power of the redemption. This is because the person who receives and understands God's word is not the indwelling Holy Spirit, but our ego. Except by the grace and power of the Holy Spirit, no one can experience the grace and power of the redemption. The church, where forgiveness, gratitude, and love have grown cold, is powerless to overcome the world, "just as when children come to the moment of birth and there is no strength to deliver them.“ 30.
