  1. Verse of the Day

  Be not afraid, O land; be glad and rejoice. Surely the LORD has done great things.     —Joel 2:21

  땅아, 두려워하지 말아라. 기뻐하고 즐거워하여라. 주님께서 큰 일을 하셨다.     —요엘 2:21

  2. Thoughts on Today's Verse

  This 1)reassurance from God is given to a people 2)facing 3)desperate 4)times, 5)which were brought on by God to lead

them to repent. Their land lies 6)desolate and 7)decimated from 8)drought, plagues, and poor harvests. God, however, is

now promising to bless them if they will return to him 9)with all their hearts. The LORD, the 10)covenant God of Israel, will do great things to bring his people to 11)deliverance through their 12)repentance and his gracious power. The land can

rejoice and be glad. So should his people! So should we! Because of Jesus, we know that "the LORD has done great

things" for us!

  하나님께서 절망적인 시기(시대) 속에 있는 백성들에게 안심시켜 주시는 이 말씀은, 회개하게 하시기 위함이였습니다. 그들의 땅은 가뭄, 전염병, 저조한 수확량으로 인해 황무하고 동물들이 잇달아 죽어가는 상태였습니다. 하지만 하나님께서는 그들이 하나님께로 전심으로 돌아온다면 그들을 축복하시겠다고 지금 약속하십니다. 이스라엘의 언약의 하나님이신 주님께서는 백성들의 회개와 당신의 은혜로운 능력을 통해 그들을 구원으로 이끄는 위대한 일을 행하실 것입니다. 땅이 기뻐하고 즐거워할 수 있으며, 땅의 사람들도 마찬가지이며, 우리도 또한 그럴 것입니다! 우리는 예수님으로 인해, "주님께서 위대한 일을 우리에게 행하신" 것을 압니다!

  3) desperate [déspərət]  : [사태·병 등이] 절망적인, (나아질) 가망이 없는

   - in desperate times 절망적인 시기에  

  4) times :  (복수취급) 어떤 특정시기의 상황들 : 시대 : 시기

   - the circumstances of a certain time  

   (예문) Modern times are so very different from the past. 현대(현대의 상황들)는 과거와 사뭇 다릅니다.

  5) which were brought on by God to lead them to repent 

   = and desperate times were brought on by God to lead them to repent (수동)

   = and God brought on desperate times to lead them to repent (능동)

   - bring on : ~을 일으키다, ~을 야기하다[초래하다]

     He was suffering from stress brought on by overwork. 그는 과로로 인한 스트레스에 시달리고 있었다.

   - repent [ripént] : 회개하다

  6) desolate [désələt déz-] : 황폐한

   - ① desolate land  황폐한 토지    ② a desolate town  황량한 도시

  7) decimated [désəmèitid] : 대량으로 죽은(잇달아 죽은)

   - The persistent drought decimated the sheep and cattle herds. 계속된 가뭄으로 양떼와 소 떼가 잇달아 죽었다.

   - decimate : [전염병·전쟁 등이] 많은 …을 죽이다

  8) drought [draut] : 가뭄, 한발

     plague [pleig] : 전염병, 페스트

  9) with all one's hearts = with all one's (whole) heart (and soul)  : ①성심껏 ②(문어) 기꺼이 ③열심히 ④진심으로

   -wholeheartedly／from the bottom of one's heart／heartily／cordially／in one's heart of hearts／with one's whole heart／with all one's heart

 10) covenant [kΛvənənt]  : 계약, 약속, 서약, 맹서

 11) deliverance [dilívərəns]  :  구원, 구출, 해방

 12) repentance [ripéntəns] : 회개

  3. My Prayer

  Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your 1)incredible work in our world. Thank you for your incredible work in my little

part of that world. Thank you for your deliverance in Jesus. Thank you for the victory over death. Thank you for the

incredible 2)outpouring of your grace and mercy. Thank you for the gift of your Holy Spirit. Thank you for 3)the Scriptures

which your Spirit inspired and uses to teach us. Thank you for a family of friends in your Church. Thank you in Jesus'

name. Amen.

  사랑하는 하늘 아버지, 이 세상에 대해 믿을 수 없을 만큼 놀라운 일을 행하신 것에 감사드립니다. 그 세상에서 참으로 작은 공간을 차지하는 저에게도 놀라우신 일을 행하신 것에 감사를 드립니다. 예수 안에서의 구원에 감사드리고, 죽음을 이김에 감사하고, 당신의 은혜와 자비를 쏟아부어주심에 감사하며, 성령의 선물에 감사하고, 성령께서 영감을 주셔서 기록된 성경을 주셔서 우리를 가르치시니 감사합니다. 당신의 교회에 형제 자매들의 가족을 허락하셔서 또한 감사합니다. 고맙습니다. 예수님 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.
