우리 대부분은 사는 동안 좋을 때도 있고 나쁠 때도 있다는 것에 동의할 것입니다.

Most of us would agree that life has its ups and downs.

지혜로운 솔로몬왕은 이것을 믿었고,

변화하는 환경에 대한 우리의 반응을 깊이 고찰했습니다.

Wise King Solomon believed this and

reflected on our responses to fluctuating circumstances.

그는 전도서에서 “천하에 범사가 기한이 있고 모든 목적이 이룰 때가 있나니......

울 때가 있고 웃을 때가 있으며 슬퍼할 때가 있고 춤출 때가 있으며”라고 썼습니다.

In Ecclesiastes, he wrote:

“To everything there is a season,

a time for every purpose under heaven: . . .

a time to weep, and a time to laugh;

a time to mourn, and a time to dance”.

솔로몬의 아버지 다윗은

“내[하나님] 마음에 합한 사람이라고 불렸습니다.

Solomon’s father, David, was called

“a man after [God’s] own heart”.

그렇지만 다윗의 생애 자체도

삶이란 즐거울 때도 있고 낙심될 때도 있다는 것을 잘 보여주고 있습니다.

Yet David’s life illustrates

how life is filled with seasons of ups and downs.

다윗은 자신과 밧세바 사이에서 난 첫 아기가 병으로 죽게 되었을 때 몹시 울었습니다.

David wept over his and Bathsheba’s first child who was fatally ill.

하지만 찬양과 즐거운 웃음의 노래들도 썼습니다.

 Yet he also wrote songs of praise and joyous laughter.

그에게 반역했던 아들 압살롬이 죽었을 때 깊은 비탄의 시간을 보냈습니다.

With the death of his rebellious son Absalom,

David experienced a time of deep mourning.

그리고 하나님의 법궤가 예루살렘으로 왔을 때

영적 무아경에 빠져 하나님 앞에서 즐겁게 춤을 추기도 했습니다.

And when the ark was brought to Jerusalem,

David, in spiritual ecstasy, danced before the Lord.

우리가 그리스도인의 삶을 언제나 평화롭고 행복한 것으로만 여긴다면,

우리는 우리 자신과 다른 사람들에게 해를 끼치고 있는 것입니다.

We do a disservice to ourselves and others

when we portray the Christian life

as peaceful and happy all the time.

성경은 오히려 믿는 사람들의 삶에는

좋을 때와 낙심될 때가 함께 있다는 것을 보여주고 있습니다.

Instead, the Bible portrays the believer’s life

as consisting of seasons of ups and downs.

당신은 지금 어느 때에 속해 있습니까?

In what season are you?

즐거울 때든 슬플 때든,

그것이 우리로 하여금 하나님을 찾고 그분을 의지하게 하도록 해야 합니다.

Whether a time of joy or sadness,

each season should motivate us to seek the Lord and trust Him

Ecclesiastes 전도서 3:1-8

[전] 3:1	범사에 기한이 있고 천하 만사가 다 때가 있나니 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:
[전] 3:2	날 때가 있고 죽을 때가 있으며 심을 때가 있고 심은 것을 뽑을 때가 있으며 a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,
[전] 3:3	죽일 때가 있고 치료할 때가 있으며 헐 때가 있고 세울 때가 있으며 a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build,
[전] 3:4	울 때가 있고 웃을 때가 있으며 슬퍼할 때가 있고 춤출 때가 있으며 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,
[전] 3:5	돌을 던져 버릴 때가 있고 돌을 거둘 때가 있으며 안을 때가 있고 안는 일을 멀리 할 때가 있으며 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
[전] 3:6	찾을 때가 있고 잃을 때가 있으며 지킬 때가 있고 버릴 때가 있으며 a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away,
[전] 3:7	찢을 때가 있고 꿰맬 때가 있으며 잠잠할 때가 있고 말할 때가 있으며 a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak,
[전] 3:8	사랑할 때가 있고 미워할 때가 있으며 전쟁할 때가 있고 평화할 때가 있느니라 a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.

Dear Lord, help us to turn to You not only in sadness but also in joy. We know You give us both good times and bad to draw us to You and help us grow. May we learn to trust You in all seasons of life. Amen. Every season needs faith to get us through it.

사랑하는 주님, 우리가 슬플 때나 즐거울 때나 주님께로 향할 수 있도록 도와주소서. 주님은 우리를 주님께로 이끌고 우리가 자라도록 돕기 위해 우리에게 좋은 시간과 어려운 시간을 함께 주시는 것을 압니다. 우리가 인생의 어떤 시기에도 주님을 신뢰할 수 있는 법을 배우게 해주소서. 아멘. 어느 시기도  믿음이 있으면 통과할 수 있다.
