33) March 29 (Thurs) Travel to Happiness- Nazare-Batalha-Fatima-Conimbriga-Coimbra (Passing through)-Porto (U)

At 2:30 p.m., the pilgrims(we) departed from the House of Saint Lucia and drove north to Coimbra. Coimbra, the third largest city in the world after Lisbon, the political capital, and Porto, the commercial capital, is considered a cultural center. En route, We learned from literature that it was the largest Roman town on the Iberian Peninsula. Instead of visiting Coimbra, We decided to visit the ancient Roman town of Conimbriga. Driving along a quiet hillside 15 kilometers south of Coimbra, a ruin suddenly appeared among olive groves. Upon entering, I found a museum displaying artifacts excavated from the site, including mosaic floors, ceramics, and sculptures. I took a quick tour. This Roman city was founded in the 1st century on the site of a Celtic settlement. It was built to transport the region's valuable products to Rome, and flourished as a transportation hub linking Lisbon and Brig. However, it is said that the town was destroyed around the 5th century when Rome fell to the invasion of the Western Cotts.

2시 30분 순례자들은 루치아 성녀 집을 출발하여 Coimbra로 가기위해 북쪽으로 차를 몰았다. 정치의 도시는 Lisboa, 상업의 도시 Porto에 이어 제3의 도시 Coimbra는 문화의 중심지라고 한다.이 곳을 가는 도중 이베리아 반도에서 가장 큰 로마 시대의 마을이 있음을 문헌으로 확인하고 Coimbra도시를 방문하는 대신 옛 로마 시대 마을 Conimbriga를 가기로 하였다. Coimbra에서 남쪽으로 15Km 지점에 조용한 야산을 달리다 보니 올리브 나무들 사이로 홀연히 유적이 나타닌다. 입구로 들어서니  이곳에서 모자이크 바닥, 도자기와 조각품등 출토된 유물이 전시된 박물관이 있어 먼저 둘러보았다. 

이곳은 겔트족의 부락 터에 로마 제국의 도시를 세운 것은 1세기,  이곳의 중요 산물을 로마로 보내기 위해 건설되리스본과 브리가를 잇는 교통 요지로 번영하였다. 그러나 5세기 경 서 코트 족의 침입으로 로마가 무너지자 이 마을도 멸망했다고 한다.

As you enter the ruins and walk a little further, the first thing that catches your eye is a mosaic floor made of small, colorful stones.

유적지로 들어가 조금만 가면 맴 먼저 색갈 나는 작은 돌로 만든 모자이크 바닥이 눈에 띈다.

The car departed around 5 o'clock. Everyone was a little tired, so we decided to pass through Coimbra and head straight for Porto, Portugal's second largest city.

5시 경 차는 출발했다. 모두들 약간씩 지쳐 있어 Coimbra는 통과하기로 하고 폴투칼 제2의 도시 Porto로 직행하였다.
