Barcelona
Victor Valdes - 9 - Excellent game by the oft-criticized Barca keeper. Was quiet for long, long periods, but alert when called upon, most notably to save from Drenthe and Palanca.
Daniel Alves - 7 - Going forward, Alves was immense, probably Barca's most threatening player. His defending left a lot to be desired though, and if Drenthe was a better finisher, he would have been punished for it.
Rafael Marquez - 7 - A solid game from the Mexican, who looked calm and assured at most times. Was arguably a little lucky not to be booked a second time.
Carles Puyol - 9 - One of the most memorable games for Barca's captain. From the start he looked to be really fired up, and he provided the perfect assist for Eto'o, to go with some great defending.
Eric Abidal - 7 - A solid performance from the Frenchman, who is slowly but surely improving. Provided good support to Henry on the left, and did not concede too much space.
Yaya Toure - 8 - Was very effective in completely neutralizing Real Madrid's midfield. It would be very surprising if Barca did try to cash in on him in January, as some rumours are suggesting...
Eidur Gudjohnsen - 5 - Not the best performance from the Icelandic international, who was given a chance to shine in a big game. Didn't too much in the first half, but his brief second half was full of mistakes, and he was soon replaced.
Xavi - 7 - Yet again, did all the work that goes un-noticed, maintaining possession with such ease that Real Madrid had no midfield to speak of.
Lionel Messi - 7 - For 91 minutes of the game, did very little indeed. Then, at the very end, a moment of genius. Not one of his best games, but showed once again that it only takes a second for him to punish the opposition.
Thierry Henry - 8 - One of his better games for Barca, following on from last week's performance. Was a constant threat to Salgado, and capped off his performance with an excellent assist for Messi.
Samuel Eto'o - 6 - He may have scored the goal, but it was a pretty forgettable performance. Missed the crucial penalty, and really did not know too much about the goal. Still, good strikers make a living on being in the right place...
SUBS:
Busquets - 8 - Made an immediate impact after coming on. His strength and composure was too much for a tiring Madrid, and he used it to win a debatable penalty.
Hleb - 6 - Only came on for the last few minutes, but helped in running out the clock.
Keita - n/a - Came on virtually at the final whistle, and may not even have actually touched the ball.
Real Madrid
Iker Casillas - 8 - Generally an excellent game, although there were one or two moments of madness. Were it not for him though, the game would have been decided far earlier than it was.
Michel Salgado - 6 - Played better than most expected, but in the end just didn't have the legs. As the game wore on, he became more of a liability, and Barcelona eventually took advantage. Also gave away the dubious penalty.
Christoph Metzelder - 7 - Had a decent game until the fatal corner, where his marking was questionable.
Fabio Cannavaro - 7 - Much like Metzelder, was playing fairly well until the last ten minutes. He always seems to raise his performance from this game, but on this occasion it was not enough.
Sergio Ramos - 6 - Often gave Messi far too much space, and got booked early, which put him under pressure. Barely went forward either.
Fernando Gago - 7 - Didn't really do his job, which was to deny Barca's midfield space. That they took so long to score was more down to the defence.
Guti - 5 - This game showed why Guti will always be good, not great. A couple of decent passes, but was largely anonymous for a lot of the game. The tactics didn't help, but he just did not get involved enough.
Wesley Sneijder - 5 - Only played for about half an hour, and one has to question why he played at all given his fitness, or lack thereof.
Royston Drenthe - 7 - Did fairly well going forward, and his pace was a constant threat. But he will forever have nightmares about THAT miss.
Raul - 7 - Another quiet game from the Real Madrid, but had one moment of absolute brilliance when his through ball found Drenthe, but the Dutchman could not finish.
Gonzalo Higuain - 7 - His pace was always a danger lurking in the back of Barca's minds, but didn't really have many opportunities. Hard to blame him though, as the tactics didn't suit him at all.
SUBS:
Palanca - 7 - Did fairly well, given his total lack of experience. Ran hard at Abidal, and had one good chance that Valdes saved.
Javi Garcia - 5 - Didn't really have much time to make any sort of impact.
Van Der Vaart - 5 - Was only one for the last ten minutes or so, but the fact that Palanca was chosen over him to replace Sneijder is still mystifying.
