Celtics Re-Sign Walter McCarty To Multi-Year Contract
BOSTON, MA – The Boston Celtics announced today that the club has re-signed Walter McCarty to a multi-year contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We are thrilled to have Walter back as a member of the Boston Celtics,” said Executive Director of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge. “He’s been an important part of what this team has accomplished the past few seasons and we feel he will be an integral part of what we hope to achieve in the future.”
McCarty just completed his sixth season as a member of the Celtics and seventh season in the NBA. In the 2002-03 season, he was one of only two Celtics players to play all 82 games, averaging 6.1 points and 3.5 rebounds in 23.8 minutes per game. Throughout his career, he averaged 5.2 points and 2.7 boards in 17.7 minutes per game.
McCarty has been active in the community since his arrival in Boston. He was the first Celtics player to receive the NBA Hometown Hero of the Month award for his community outreach efforts during the month of July, 2001. In November 2002, he launched the I Love Music Foundation, whose goal is to promote the positive values and importance of music by providing opportunities, resources and education for youth. Earlier this year, he released his debut CD titled, “Moment For Love,” with portions of the proceeds benefiting his foundation.
McCarty was originally acquired from the New York Knicks on October 22, 1997.
