Don’t Just Sit There, Get Up and Walk!
MEMORY VERSE: Acts 3:6
Then Peter said, "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk." (NIV)
But Peter said, "I don't have any silver or gold! But I will give you what I do have. In the name of Jesus Christ from Nazareth, get up and start walking." (CEV)
But Peter said, "I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: (A)In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene--walk!" (NASB)
How is everyone today? I hope you are all doing really well and staying warm. This week we are going to talk about a really AWESOME thing that happened. Do you think, if you tell someone who cannot walk, to “WALK” he will walk? Well, this same thing happened in our story this week.
Let’s practice our memory verse. Great job! Can you do it without looking? Awesome!
So, 1) Peter and John we walking one day. 2) They saw a man by the name of Beautiful. When he was born, his legs were so bad that 3) he could never walk. Because he couldn’t walk, he couldn’t work. So, everyday, he was at the gate asking for money so that he could eat. Without looking at Peter or John he asked for money. Well, Peter said to Beautiful, “Look at us”/ and so he did. He thought Peter would give him some money, but Peter, through the will of God, gave him something much more. Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold! But I will give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, 4) (Peter said) get up and start walking.” Did Beautiful get up and start walking? Peter helped him up and his feet and ankles became strong so he could walk. Beautiful began walking, then jumping and singing praises to God. He had been given more than money could ever give him. He was given the chance to walk! The people who knew him were amazed! He couldn’t walk, but now he can?!?! They were amazed.

So, we can see that nothing is impossible with God. God gave Peter the power, with just words, to heal Beautiful. God’s words have power. It can heal the sick and fix someone’s heart. Let’s pray.
Dear God,
Thank you for this day. Thank you for loving us. Thank you for your powerful words. When I am sick, please heal me. When my heart is broken, please fix it.
In Jesus’ name,
AMEN!

How is everyone today? I hope you are all doing well. Did you guys start school again? I hope your vacation was fun. My students said that they go back to school for one week and then they have spring vacation until March. Are you on Spring Vacation after next week also?
The other day I went to a movie in downtown Daegu. I love going downtown, well most of the time. There are so many people; there are also many beggars downtown. Some of them can walk. Some of them are missing arms or legs. I don’t know about you, but when I see them, my heart hurts for them. Sometimes, I just walk by and don’t look at them. Other times, I stop and give them some money. One time, my friend Rob took a guy into Burger King and bought him dinner. Today’s scripture talks about a beggar by the name of Beautiful whose legs, ever since he was born, didn’t work. Before we begin, let’s practice our memory verse.
OK, good job on the verses. Remember to keep them in your mind. Our passage today comes from Acts. Where is Acts? New Testament of course. OK, so let’s go to Acts, Chapter 3, verses 1-10. Can someone read that for me? You can read in English or in Korean.
Well, we have Peter and John traveling together. They were heading to the temple at the time people where going to pray. At the gate there was a man, named Beautiful, who was crippled. He had been crippled since he was born. This means he has never taken a single step in his entire life! Now remember this. Since he could not walk, this meant he could not work. So, every day, he was carried to the city gates to beg for money. The reason he begged was so that he could have money to buy food. So, when he saw Peter and John, he asked them for money. What was Peter’s reaction? What was John’s?
Peter stopped when the man spoke to him. He didn’t just walk by. He stopped! Then, he said, “Look at us.” Beautiful thought that Peter was definitely going to give him some money. But then, Peter said something that might be a little strange. The Contemporary English Version says: But Peter said, "I don't have any silver or gold! But I will give you what I do have.” What a strange thing to say. Maybe Peter was going to give him some food. Or maybe would give him a new shirt. But Peter was going to give him, through the power of God and His words, something even more incredible, more valuable, and worth more than everything Beautiful had ever received. Peter said, “In the name of Jesus Christ from Nazareth, get up and start walking.” What was this? Get up and start walking? The man can’t walk. He has never walked and Peter has just told him to get up and start walking?!?! Well, Peter put out his right hand, Beautiful took it, and he stood up. IMMEDIATELY his feet and his ankles became strong! This is a miracle. I remember, when I was younger, my cousin broke his leg and couldn’t walk on it. When the cast came off, he had to learn how to walk again and build up the strength in his ankles and knees over time. But Beautiful’s feet and ankles became strong instantly. Also, the Bible says he didn’t slowly rise to his feet. It says, “He jumped to his feet and began to walk.” OK, I can see him slowly standing and trying to get to his feet, but to jump to your feet and begin walking when you have never taken a single step?! How many of you play the piano? At your first piano lesson, could you play Mozart perfectly? Well, Beautiful knew how to walk and could walk. But that is not all. As they were walking to the temple courts, Beautiful began jumping! That’s right, jumping! He was walking and jumping and praising God! The people who knew Beautiful were stunned. How could this have happened?!?! Beautiful can’t walk, he never could! But it was possible through the power of God. It wasn’t Peter’s own power or holiness or godliness which healed Beautiful. It was God acting through Peter.
God can do anything. Nothing is impossible for Him. He and His words have the power to heal the sick and mend a broken heart. We can pray to God for healing and He will heal us. Let’s pray.
Dear God,
Thank you for this day. Thank you for loving us. Thank you for your son Jesus. Please heal me when I am sick. Please heal my broken heart. Please help me know all this are possible with you.
In Jesus’ name,
AMEN!
