Some people think governments should spend as much money as possible exploring outer space(For example, traveling to the Moon and to other planets). Other people disagree and think governments should spend this money for our basic needs on Earth. Which of these two opinions do you agree with? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.
Given the choice between exploring outer space or improving social welfare under the limitation of national finance, I would spend money on taking care of citizens here in Korea. Even though space exploration is one of the futuristic issue that needs our special interests for potential resource development, national security and technological development, we've faced more practical and crucial stacked issues in terms of public nations reality, which are imbalanced life style between the rich and the poor, insecure pension system for the elderly and environmental pollution. In short, as old saying goes like "Fundamentals are the building blocks of fun." I think we have to build up our technological development for space exploration based on securing fundamental life requirements for the citizens.
Space travel is an exciting endeavor that never fails to capture the public's imagination. However, it is also incredibly costly and I feel that a government's first responsibility is to take care of its citizens here on Earth. Therefore, governments should spend their money on providing social welfare and on improving our environment rather than on research in outer space.
First of all, improving social welfare on Earth is far more important than knowing how many planets there are in our galaxy. For this reason, government money should be spent in a direct way on the issues that are most improvement to its people. For instance, there are many people who suffer from poverty, and the gap between the rich and poor is increasing in most countries. Also, conflicts between countries or incurable diseases like AIDS cause many deaths and pain to people. I think governments should try to resolve these problems first.
Furthermore, saving our environment is of utmost importance. Global warming poses a serious threat to the future of our environment. This situation came about due to the depletion of natural resources and the pollution of air, land and water, which has caused many unnatural weather changes that wreak havoc on the whole nation and world. Finally, the extinction various animals and plants endangers the balance of our ecosystem. Thus, it is the health of our own planet, rather than other planets, which should receive government attention.
In summary, although space exploration is interesting and exciting. it is not more important than the everyday lives of common people. Accordingly, governments should spend more money on improving the lives of humans and on saving our environment. There are many serious problems here on Earth that must be dealt with before we throw our money into outer space.
