I

Ok-yee who visited her grandma in the countryside

Two dried persimmons given to me

With her grandma’s love and care

When I received them

My heart felt so warm

Full of love, safe from any storm

I FEEL

Ok-yee grandma’s love

Ok-yee’s care from above

Is it because their hearts traveled to me

Carried by the two dried persimmons?

II

When mugworts sprouted and grew

Soon-yee's grandma picked it as she knew what to do

Three days ago, she traveled so far

To visit her daughter in Seoul

Now at Soon-yee's house, all alone

Apricot blossoms shine and have brightly grown

Guarding the house, night and day

While grandma is away

Ok-yee's dog, from next door

Barking loudly if there's any noise to explore

Woof woof woof woof

Grandma, enjoy your time away!

With apricot blossoms and Ok-yee's dog nearby

Soon-yee's house stays safe under the sky

They guard it well, day and night

Until grandma returns to her delight.

Under Mt. Bohyeon, Galcheon kids play

Picking Cornelian cherries every day

Instead of squash, they munch on these treats

Instead of biscuits, it's roasted potatoes they eat

With faces dark from the sun's rays warm

They laugh and run through their own happy days

When asked what they wish for, they say with glee

I want to pick cherries as much as can be!

I want to roast potatoes and eat them too

Under Mt. Bohyeon, with skies so blue

Galcheon kids, full of cheer, enjoy their simple pleasures.

시골 할머니 집에 다녀온 옥이

시골 할머니가 주신 거라며

곶감 두 개

내게 건네준다

그걸 건네받자

내 마음이

따뜻해진다

넉넉해진다

옥이 할머니의 마음

곶감 두 개에 실려

내게로 건너와서일까

빈 집

순이 할매 쑥이 돋아 쑥쑥 크자

부지런히 뜯으시더니

사흘 전 서울 딸네 집에 갔네

순이 할매 혼자 사는 집

살구꽃 피어 밤낮을 밝히며

빈집 지키고 있네

옆집 옥이네 멍멍이

순이 할매 집 인기척이라도 나면

멍멍멍 멍멍멍

순이 할매 서울 가신 김에

서울 구경

실컷 하고 오시라고

살구꽃과 옆집 옥이네 멍멍이

순이 할매 비워 놓은 집

든든히 지키고 있네

갈천 아이들

쮸쮸바 대신 머루를 따 먹고

비스킷 대신 감자를 구워 먹고

햇볕에 그을린

새까만 얼굴

소원이 무어냐고 물으면

머루나 실컷 따 먹고 싶단다

감자나 실컷 구워 먹고 싶단다
