TONE CHECK   말투 점검

퇴근 후 차를 몰고 집으로 가던 중에 라디오 광고에 귀를 기울이게 되었습니다.

Driving home from work,

I heard a radio advertisement that got my attention.

그것은 이메일을 쓰는 동안에 점검해 주는 컴퓨터 프로그램이었습니다.

It was for a computer pro-gram

that checks e-mails as they are written.

나는 “철자법 점검”이나 “문법 점검” 프로그램에는 익숙했지만 이건 좀 달랐습니다.

  I was familiar with

“spell check” and “grammar check” pro-grams,

 but this was different.

그것은 “말투점검”을 해주는 것이었습니다.

This was “tone check.”

그 프로그램은 이메일에 사용된 말투나 단어들이

지나치게 공격적이거나 불친절하거나 야비하지 않도록 확실하게 점검해줍니다.

The software monitors the tone and wording

of e-mails to make certain

they are not overly aggressive, unkind, or mean-spirited.

아나운서가 이 프로그램의 특징을 설명하는 것을 듣다보니,

이와 비슷한 프로그램이 나의 입을 위해서도 있으면 좋겠다는 생각이 들었습니다.

As I listened to the announcer describe

the features of this software,

I wondered what it would be like to have something like

that for my mouth.

먼저 상대방의 말을 다 듣지도 않고 거칠게 반응을 하고는

나중에 그 말 때문에 후회를 한 적이 얼마나 많았는지요!

How many times have I reacted harshly instead of listening first

- and later regretted the words I had spoken?

말투 점검 프로그램은 분명히

내가 섣불리 어리석은 반응을 하지 않도록 나를 보호해 주었을 것입니다.

Certainly a tone check would have protected me

from responding so foolishly.

바울사도는 믿는 우리들이 특히 믿지 않는 사람들과 대화할 때에

우리가 하는 말을 점검할 필요가 있음을 간파했습니다.

Paul saw the need for us as believers to check our speech

- especially when talking to those who are not Christians.

바울사도는 이렇게 말했습니다.

“너희 말을 항상 은혜 가운데서 소금으로 고루게 함같이 하라

그리하면 각 사람에게 마땅히 대답할 것을 알리라".

He said,

“Let your speech always be with grace,

seasoned with salt,

that you may know how you ought to answer each one”.

그의 관심사는 우리가 하는 말들이

주님의 아름다운 모습을 나타내면서 은혜로워야 한다는 데 있었습니다.

His concern was that our speech be graceful,

reflecting the beauty of our Savior.

그렇게 함으로써 다른 사람의 마음을 사로잡아야 한다는 것이었습니다.

And it must be inviting to others.

믿지 않는 사람들에게 올바른 말투로 이야기하는 것은

그들에게 복음을 증거하는 능력의 핵심입니다.

Talking with the right tone to unbelievers is vital

to our ability to witness to them.

골로새서 4장 6절 말씀으로 우리의 말투를 점검할 수 있습니다.

Colos-sians 4:6 can be our tone check.

Colossians 골로새서 4:2-6

[골] 4:2	기도를 계속하고 기도에 감사함으로 깨어 있으라 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.
[골] 4:3	또한 우리를 위하여 기도하되 하나님이 전도할 문을 우리에게 열어 주사 그리스도의 비밀을 말하게 하시기를 구하라 내가 이 일 때문에 매임을 당하였노라 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.
[골] 4:4	그리하면 내가 마땅히 할 말로써 이 비밀을 나타내리라 Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.
[골] 4:5	외인에게 대해서는 지혜로 행하여 세월을 아끼라 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.
[골] 4:6	너희 말을 항상 은혜 가운데서 소금으로 맛을 냄과 같이 하라 그리하면 각 사람에게 마땅히 대답할 것을 알리라 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

Tone of voice can be effective If our spirit’s calm and meek; Let us watch our words and actions, Always careful how we speak.? Every time we speak, our heart is on parade.

고요하고 온유한 심령을 가지면 배려하는 말투를 쓰게 된다네 우리의 언어와 행동을 잘 살피고 늘 어떻게 말할 것인지 관심을 기울이세 우리가 말을 할 때마다 우리의 마음상태가 드러나게 된다.
