Good News Translation

The Wedding in Cana

2 Two days later there was a wedding in the town of Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine had given out, Jesus' mother said to him, “They are out of wine.”

4 “You must not tell me what to do,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.”

5 Jesus' mother then told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

6 The Jews have rules about ritual washing, and for this purpose six stone water jars were there, each one large enough to hold between twenty and thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill these jars with water.” They filled them to the brim, 8 and then he told them, “Now draw some water out and take it to the man in charge of the feast.” They took him the water, 9 which now had turned into wine, and he tasted it. He did not know where this wine had come from (but, of course, the servants who had drawn out the water knew); so he called the bridegroom 10 and said to him, “Everyone else serves the best wine first, and after the guests have drunk a lot, he serves the ordinary wine. But you have kept the best wine until now!”

11 Jesus performed this first miracle in Cana in Galilee; there he revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him.

12 After this, Jesus and his mother, brothers, and disciples went to Capernaum and stayed there a few days.

Jesus Goes to the Temple

13 It was almost time for the Passover Festival, so Jesus went to Jerusalem. 14 There in the Temple he found people selling cattle, sheep, and pigeons, and also the moneychangers sitting at their tables. 15 So he made a whip from cords and drove all the animals out of the Temple, both the sheep and the cattle; he overturned the tables of the moneychangers and scattered their coins; 16 and he ordered those who sold the pigeons, “Take them out of here! Stop making my Father's house a marketplace!” 17 His disciples remembered that the scripture says, “My devotion to your house, O God, burns in me like a fire.”

18 The Jewish authorities came back at him with a question, “What miracle can you perform to show us that you have the right to do this?”

19 Jesus answered, “Tear down this Temple, and in three days I will build it again.”

20 “Are you going to build it again in three days?” they asked him. “It has taken forty-six years to build this Temple!”

21 But the temple Jesus was speaking about was his body. 22 So when he was raised from death, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the scripture and what Jesus had said.

Jesus' Knowledge of Human Nature

23 While Jesus was in Jerusalem during the Passover Festival, many believed in him as they saw the miracles he performed. 24 But Jesus did not trust himself to them, because he knew them all. 25 There was no need for anyone to tell him about them, because he himself knew what was in their hearts.

카나의 혼인 잔치

사흘째 되는 날, 갈릴래아 카나에서 혼인 잔치가 있었는데, 예수님의 어머니도 거기에 계셨다.

예수님도 제자들과 함께 그 혼인 잔치에 초대를 받으셨다.

그런데 포도주가 떨어지자 예수님의 어머니가 예수님께 “포도주가 없구나.” 하였다.

4

예수님께서 어머니에게 말씀하셨다. “여인이시여, 저에게 무엇을 바라십니까? 아직 저의 때가 오지 않았습니다.”

그분의 어머니는 일꾼들에게 “무엇이든지 그가 시키는 대로 하여라.” 하고 말하였다.

거기에는 유다인들의 정결례에 쓰는 돌로 된 물독 여섯 개가 놓여 있었는데, 모두 두세 동이들이였다.

예수님께서 일꾼들에게 “물독에 물을 채워라.” 하고 말씀하셨다. 그들이 물독마다 가득 채우자,

예수님께서 그들에게 다시, “이제는 그것을 퍼서 과방장에게 날라다 주어라.” 하셨다. 그들은 곧 그것을 날라 갔다.

과방장은 포도주가 된 물을 맛보고 그것이 어디에서 났는지 알지 못하였지만, 물을 퍼 간 일꾼들은 알고 있었다. 그래서 과방장이 신랑을 불러

그에게 말하였다. “누구든지 먼저 좋은 포도주를 내놓고, 손님들이 취하면 그보다 못한 것을 내놓는데, 지금까지 좋은 포도주를 남겨 두셨군요.”

이렇게 예수님께서는 처음으로 갈릴래아 카나에서 표징을 일으키시어, 당신의 영광을 드러내셨다. 그리하여 제자들은 예수님을 믿게 되었다.

그 뒤에 예수님께서는 어머니와 형제들과 제자들과 함께 카파르나움으로 내려가셨다. 그러나 그곳에 여러 날 머무르지는 않으셨다.

성전을 정화하시다(마태 21,12-13; 마르 11,15-17; 루카 19,45-48)

유다인들의 파스카 축제가 가까워지자 예수님께서는 예루살렘에 올라가셨다.

그리고 성전에 소와 양과 비둘기를 파는 자들과 환전꾼들이 앉아 있는 것을 보시고,

끈으로 채찍을 만드시어 양과 소와 함께 그들을 모두 성전에서 쫓아내셨다. 또 환전상들의 돈을 쏟아 버리시고 탁자들을 엎어 버리셨다.

비둘기를 파는 자들에게는, “이것들을 여기에서 치워라. 내 아버지의 집을 장사하는 집으로 만들지 마라.” 하고 이르셨다.

그러자 제자들은 “당신 집에 대한 열정이 저를 집어삼킬 것입니다.”라고 성경에 기록된 말씀이 생각났다.

그때에 유다인들이 예수님께, “당신이 이런 일을 해도 된다는 무슨 표징을 보여 줄 수 있소?” 하고 말하였다.

19

그러자 예수님께서 그들에게 대답하셨다. “이 성전을 허물어라. 그러면 내가 사흘 안에 다시 세우겠다.”

20

유다인들이 말하였다. “이 성전을 마흔여섯 해나 걸려 지었는데, 당신이 사흘 안에 다시 세우겠다는 말이오?”

그러나 그분께서 성전이라고 하신 것은 당신 몸을 두고 하신 말씀이었다.

22

예수님께서 죽은 이들 가운데에서 되살아나신 뒤에야, 제자들은 예수님께서 이 말씀을 하신 것을 기억하고, 성경과 그분께서 이르신 말씀을 믿게 되었다.

모든 사람을 아시는 예수님

파스카 축제 때에 예수님께서 예루살렘에 계시는 동안, 많은 사람이 그분께서 일으키신 표징들을 보고 그분의 이름을 믿었다.

24

그러나 예수님께서는 그들을 신뢰하지 않으셨다. 그분께서 모든 사람을 다 알고 계셨기 때문이다.

25

그분께는 사람에 관하여 누가 증언해 드릴 필요가 없었다. 사실 예수님께서는 사람 속에 들어 있는 것까지 알고 계셨다.
