Red Sox Notebook: Nixon"s rehabilitation program hits small snag

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Red Sox outfielder Trot Nixon suffered a setback in his rehabilitation Saturday in Florida.

Nixon, who suffered a herniated disk in spring training and has been rehabbing since, tweaked his left quadriceps and will take a few days off. Boston manager

Terry Francona said yesterday that Nixon"s quad is "tender" and the organization plans on holding him back a little for precautionary reasons.

"You hate to see guys have setbacks," said Francona. "He"s probably climbing the walls, but the good news is his back is doing really well. His (quad) is going to heal, but they want to slow him down a little bit so it doesn"t become a problem. He can still hit and he"s going to be okay."

Nixon had a sore quadriceps, but had been playing through the discomfort. That included an intrasquad game on Saturday when he had eight at-bats, including two hits.

This could actually be a blessing in disguise, however, as it will give his back more time to heal.

Said Francona: "These things have a way of working out."

New role for Arroyo

Bronson Arroyo made his last start -- for now -- Saturday. Despite suffering the loss, he pitched well and it is expected his transition to the bullpen will be an easy one. He"ll continue the same work schedule and his first relief appearance could come Wednesday in Cleveland when he would follow Byung-Hyun Kim, who will make his second start of the season.

Francona plans on using the versatile Arroyo in every situation out of the bullpen.

Curt Schilling, Derek Lowe got in their necessary work yesterday at the Ballpark in Arlington before the trio traveled to Cleveland a day ahead of the rest of the team . . . Shortstop Nomar Garciaparra had the day off yesterday and will be reeval‎uated today before starting a base-running program . . . Second baseman Mark Bellhorn came into last night"s game with a .221 average and an on-base percentage of .421, leading the team with 24 walks. He added to his walk total last night with a free pass in the second inning.

(실링과 로우는 알링턴 구장에서 어제 연습후, 팀보다 하루 일찍 클리블렌드로 이동. 노마는 어제 하루 쉬었고, 오늘 월요일 주루 훈련을 시작하기전에 재검진을 받게 된다. 2루수 벨혼은 어제 경기전까지 .221의 타율에 .421의 출루율을 기록했고 볼넷 24개로 팀 수위. ) 

위에 기자가 또 빼먹었는데, 트리오라 했으니 세명이겠죠. 실링, 로우외에 페드로도 실링이 빌린 비행기로 같이 하루 일찍 클리블랜드로 이동했습니다. 역시 클블전에 출전하는 병현선수는 팀과 같이 이동하는 걸로 선택했다고 글로브지에 나와 있네요.~
