35) 3/31 Travel to Happiness: Vigo - Spain's Largest Fishing Port


    The morning dawned bright in Vigo. The sea off Vigo, as seen from my beachfront hotel room, was calm. The rain and wind from last night had subsided. A large cruise ship appeared to have docked at the dock the previous night. Dozens of tour buses pulled into the dock, loading up tourists. It seemed like they were starting their tours to the historic sites from here.
Vigo is said to be Spain's largest fishing port. When I arrived late yesterday afternoon, I saw a rias bay. Driving along the coastal road, lined with steep cliffs, the cliffs suddenly appeared right below. The northwestern coast of Spain, including Vigo, is called a rias region due to its many deep rias (inlets). They are a typical example of a "sunken coast," formed by the subsidence of the terrain. The term "rias coast" is said to originate from this.
 
  Oyster farm rafts, reminiscent of those on Korea's southern coast, float on the surface. We stayed at the Hotel Bahia, which overlooks the ocean, and explored the city. The weather was unpredictable, with sudden bursts of rain and wind. Returning to the hotel, we had a Galician-style seafood dinner

Vigo의 아침이 밝았다.해변가의 호텔 방에서 바라다 본 Vigo앞 바다는 조용하다.
엊저녁 내린 비와 바람은 잔잔해 졌다. 앞 부두에는  대형 크루즈가 간밤에 정박한 것 같다.
관광 버스 수십대가 부두로 들어 와서 관광객을  실는다.
 이 곳에서 유적지로 관광길에 나서는 것 같다.
Vigo는 스페인 최대의 어항이란다. 어제 오후 늦게 Vigo로 들어 올 때 리아스식 만을 보았다. 깍아지른 듯한 절벽으로 이루어진 해안길을 달려오니 어느새 바로 아래로 절벽이 나타나기도 한다.
Vigo를 포함한 스페인 북서부의 해안은 깊은 리아 (Ria,만)가 많아 리아스 지방이라고 부른다. 지형이 침강하여 형성된 '침강 해안'의 전형이다. 리아스식 해안이란 말은 여기서 비롯되었다고 한다.
 해면에는 우리 나라 남해안 같은 굴 양식 뗏목이 떠 있다.
 바다가 보이는 Hotel Bahia를 숙소로 정하고 시내를 다녀 보았다. 갑작이 비 바람이 불기도 하여 날씨의 변화가 심하였다. Hotel로 돌아와서 이곳에서 갈라시아 식 해물요리로 저녁식사를 하였다.

                                     
 In the park, there's a statue of a fisherman's wife and her children waiting for her husband. It seems to reflect the fishermen's life here. On a windy and rainy day like today, Vigo's fishermen's family must be feeling this way.
                      공원에는 어부 부인이 아이들과 함께 남편을 기다리는 조각상이 있다. 이곳의 어부생활상을 보는 것 같다.                        오늘같이 비 바람치는 날에는 Vigo의 어부 가족은 이러한 마음일 것이다.

On a beautiful morning in VIgo, the green mountains are reflected in the water, creating a beautiful spectacle. In Bigo Bay, small, black fishing boats float.
 Vigo의 아침, 푸르른 산이 물에 비쳐 아름다운 장관을 보이고 있다. 비고 만에는 검고 작은 어부 배들이 떠 있다.
