내가 즐겨 보는 TV 프로그램 중 ‘깜짝변신’이란 것이 있습니다.

A television program that I enjoy watching has

a segment called Ambush Makeover.

선택된 2명의 여자들이 약 3시간 동안

머리 손질과 화장을 다시 하고 새로운 옷으로 치장을 받습니다.

Two women are chosen to undergo 3 hours

of pampering to update their hair, makeup, and wardrobe.

그들의 변신은 가끔 기가 막힙니다.

The change is often dramatic.

여자들이 커튼 밖으로 나오면 구경꾼들은 놀라서 입이 딱 벌어집니다.

When the women step from behind a curtain,

the audience gasps.

또 가끔 친구들이나 가족들은 눈물을 흘리기도 합니다.

Friends and family members sometimes start to cry.

이 모든 순서가 지난 후 본인들도 자신의 모습을 보게 됩니다.

After all of this,

the person with the new look finally gets to see herself.

그들은 너무 놀라서 이게 진짜 본인인지 확인이라도 하려는 듯

거울 속의 모습을 뚫어지게 바라봅니다.

Some are so shocked that they keep looking in the mirror

as if to find proof that it’s really them.

그녀들이 무대를 지나 동반자들에게 갈 때 원래의 자기모습이 명백하게 드러납니다.

As the women walk across the set to join their companions,

the former self becomes evident.

대부분의 경우 자기가 신고 있는 새 구두로 어떻게 걸어야 할지를 모릅니다.

Most do not know how to walk in their new shoes.

그들은 세련되게 보이지만 서투른 걸음걸이 때문에 들통이 납니다.

Although they look chic, their clumsy walk gives them away.

그들의 변화는 불완전한 변화입니다.

Their transformation is incomplete.

이것은 우리 그리스도인의 삶에서도 마찬가지입니다.

This is true in our Christian lives as well.

하나님은 우리에게 새로운 삶을 시작하게 하려고 일을 하셨습니다.

그러나 주님처럼 살기에는 시간과 노력과 수많은 반복적인 연습이 필요합니다.

God does the work in us to give us a new start,

but to walk in the way of the Lord requires

time, effort, and lots of practice.

만약 우리가 제자리에서 움직이지 않고 미소만 짓는다면

변화를 완벽히 받은 것처럼 보일 것입니다.

If we just stand still and smile,

we can pass as being transformed.

그러나 걷기 시작하면 우리의 삶에 변화를 얼마나 이루었는지를 알 수 있습니다.

But the way we walk tells how far along

we are in living out that transformation.

변화되었다함은 전에 살았던 삶의 방법은 내려놓고

새로운 삶의 방법으로 살아가는 것을 배우는 것입니다.

Being changed means giving up our previous way of life

and learning a new way to walk.

Deut. 신명기 11:13-23  

[신] 11:13	내가 오늘 너희에게 명하는 내 명령을 너희가 만일 청종하고 너희의 하나님 여호와를 사랑하여 마음을 다하고 뜻을 다하여 섬기면 So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today--to love the LORD your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul--
[신] 11:14	여호와께서 너희의 땅에 이른 비, 늦은 비를 적당한 때에 내리시리니 너희가 곡식과 포도주와 기름을 얻을 것이요 then I will send rain on your land in its season,  both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine and oil.
[신] 11:15	또 가축을 위하여 들에 풀이 나게 하시리니 네가 먹고 배부를 것이라 I will provide grass in the fields for your cattle, and you will eat and be satisfied.
[신] 11:16	너희는 스스로 삼가라 두렵건대 마음에 미혹하여 돌이켜 다른 신들을 섬기며 그것에게 절하므로 Be careful, or you will be enticed to turn away and worship other gods and bow down to them.
[신] 11:17	여호와께서 너희에게 진노하사 하늘을 닫아 비를 내리지 아니하여 땅이 소산을 내지 않게 하시므로 너희가 여호와께서 주신 아름다운 땅에서 속히 멸망할까 하노라 Then the LORD'S anger will burn against you, and he will shut the heavens so that it will not rain and the ground will yield no produce, and you will soon perish from the good land the LORD is giving you.
[신] 11:18	이러므로 너희는 나의 이 말을 너희의 마음과 뜻에 두고 또 그것을 너희의 손목에 매어 기호를 삼고 너희 미간에 붙여 표를 삼으며 Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
[신] 11:19	또 그것을 너희의 자녀에게 가르치며 집에 앉아 있을 때에든지, 길을 갈 때에든지, 누워 있을 때에든지, 일어날 때에든지 이 말씀을 강론하고 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
[신] 11:20	또 네 집 문설주와 바깥 문에 기록하라 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates,
[신] 11:21	그리하면 여호와께서 너희 조상들에게 주리라고 맹세하신 땅에서 너희의 날과 너희의 자녀의 날이 많아서 하늘이 땅을 덮는 날과 같으리라 so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land that the LORD swore to give your forefathers, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.
[신] 11:22	너희가 만일 내가 너희에게 명하는 이 모든 명령을 잘 지켜 행하여 너희의 하나님 여호와를 사랑하고 그의 모든 도를 행하여 그에게 의지하면 If you carefully observe all these commands I am giving you to follow- -to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways and to hold fast to him--
[신] 11:23	여호와께서 그 모든 나라 백성을 너희 앞에서 다 쫓아내실 것이라 너희가 너희보다 강대한 나라들을 차지할 것인즉 then the LORD will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations larger and stronger than you.

The new life in Christ has begun? The past with its darkness is gone; Look closer to see what the Savior has done, For change is beginning to dawn. A change in behavior begins with a change in the heart.

그리스도 안에서의 새로운 삶이 시작되었네 어두웠던 지난날의 삶은 지나가 버렸네 새로운 삶의 동이 트기 시작했으니 주께서 하신 일을 잘 생각해 보세 행실의 변화는 마음의 변화로부터 시작된다.
