Final Olympic Qualifying Berth Determined at Championships Featuring Top Asian Players Including Yao Ming of the Houston Rockets and Mengke Bateer of the Toronto Raptors
<br>
SECAUCUS, NJ – September 25, 2003 – NBA TV, the league’s 24-hour television network, will broadcast the Semifinals and Championship game of the 2003 Asian Championships beginning Tuesday, September 30th from the Heilongjian University Gymnasium and the Tienruin Gymnasium in China. The tournament culminates on Wednesday, October 1st with the title game, in which the Olympic-qualifying berth from the Asian zone will be determined, completing the Olympic lineup. NBA TV’s Spero Dedes will provide play-by-play for televised matchups.

The Championships feature two of the NBA’s top players from China representing the Chinese National Team—Houston Rockets’ center Yao Ming and Toronto Raptors’ center Mengke Bateer. Ming dominated with 29 points and 13 rebounds for China in a first-round 121-61 victory over Chinese Taipei on September 23rd.

This season, NBA rosters are expected to feature as many as 80 international players from nearly 40 countries and territories. Eight international players were selected in the first round of the 2003 NBA Draft.

Eleven of 12 nations have qualified for the 2004 Summer Games: host Greece; 2002 World Champion Serbia & Montenegro (former Yugoslavia); Angola from the Africa zone; the United States, Argentina and Puerto Rico from the Americas; Lithuania, Spain and Italy from Europe; and Australia and New Zealand from Oceania.
