Lights, camera, drama!

We were delighted to welcome Box House Theatre Company from the UK to GIS for a two-day residency packed with creativity, collaboration and hands-on learning.

Known for their distinctive Platform Theatre approach, Box House uses nothing but actors’ bodies and voices to create everything on stage, from props and set to sound.

Our students jumped right in, exploring how to “draw” objects through mime, create seamless transitions, develop characterisation and build fantastical worlds through movement and imagination.

The workshops challenged students to trust their instincts, respond to each other’s ideas and work with physical discipline, while experimenting with new ways to tell stories. These skills will be particularly valuable as several year groups begin developing their own examined devised performances in the coming weeks.

Students also had the opportunity to watch Box House perform their award-winning show Twisted Tales, before showcasing the work they created during the residency to their families.

We were incredibly proud to see our students throw themselves into every challenge, discovering just how much they can communicate with an audience through their bodies, voices and ideas. We can’t wait to see where they take their learning next!

우리는 창의성, 협업, 실습 중심의 학습으로 가득한 이틀간의 레지던시를 위해 영국의 박스 하우스 씨어터 컴퍼니를 GIS에 초대하게 되어 매우 기뻤습니다.

독특한 플랫폼 씨어터 방식으로 유명한 박스 하우스는 소품과 무대 세트, 음향까지 모든 것을 배우들의 몸과 목소리만으로 무대 위에 구현합니다.

학생들은 바로 참여해 마임으로 사물을 '그리는' 방법을 탐구하고, 자연스러운 전환을 만들며, 인물 묘사를 발전시키고, 움직임과 상상력을 통해 환상적인 세계를 구축하는 법을 배웠습니다.

워크숍은 학생들이 자신의 직감을 믿고 서로의 아이디어에 반응하며 신체적 규율을 지키는 동시에, 이야기를 전하는 새로운 방식을 실험하도록 도전했습니다. 이 기술들은 앞으로 몇 주 동안 여러 학년이 자체적으로 준비한 공연을 선보이기 시작할 때 특히 유용할 것입니다.

학생들은 박스 하우스가 공연한 수상작 '트위스티드 테일즈'를 관람한 뒤, 레지던시 기간 동안 만든 작품을 가족들에게 선보일 기회도 가졌습니다.

학생들이 모든 도전에 열정적으로 임하며 몸짓, 목소리, 아이디어로 청중과 얼마나 깊이 소통할 수 있는지 보여주는 모습을 보며 정말 자랑스러웠습니다. 아이들이 다음에는 어디로 학습을 확장할지 정말 기대돼요!
