GEORGE TOWN: The Service Civil International (SCI) held a vegetarian dinner recently to raise funds for the Cerebral Palsy (Spastic) Children's Association of Penang.
Some 750 diners showed up for the eight-course dinner at the Moral Uplifting Hall, here.
The guests were entertained by the Heritage Band, which consisted of a family of three generations of musicians. There were also dance performances by children of the Penang Spastic Home.
SCI president Athimulam Arjunan said: "We are happy and grateful for the overwhelming response and support, from far and near, for the dinner."
Athimulam said each of the platinum, gold and silver sponsors received a Peace Holiday package for two adults and two children below 10.
SCI presented a cheque for RM10,000 to the association.
Among those present were prominent peace advocate Datuk Dr Anwar Fazal, Orang Besar Jajahan Larut Matang dan Selama Wan Mohd Isa Wan Mohd Razali, Bukit Bendera member of parliament Zhairil Khir Johari, Words of Peace Global president M. Mahendran, Partner for Peace Malaysia, Taiping president Beh Yang Toh and Wawasan Open University's Prof Dr S. Santhiram. By K. Kandiah
