KAIST Fires Academics with Poor Track Records
Korea's top science-and-technology school has fired six of its professors for failing to keep up in their field.
The six were among 25 professors at KAIST who had applied to extend their tenure at the university in Daejeon
south of Seoul.
It marks the first time for the prestigious school to let professors go for mediocre progress in academics,
and the move has shocked many Korean scholars for whom evaluations are widely understood as a rubber stamp.
The school stands by its decision on the premise that internal competition holds the key to its advancement.
