<P>KAIST Fires Academics with Poor Track Records </P>
<P><BR>Korea's top science-and-technology school has fired six of its professors for failing to keep up in their field.<BR>The six were among 25 professors at KAIST who had applied to extend their <FONT color=#e31600>tenure</FONT> at the university in Daejeon </P>
<P>south of Seoul.<BR></P>
<P>It marks the first time for the <FONT color=#e31600>prestigious</FONT> school to let professors go for <FONT color=#e31600>mediocre</FONT> <FONT color=#e31600>progress</FONT> in academics, </P>
<P>and the move has shocked many Korean scholars for whom eval‎uations are widely understood as a <FONT color=#e31600>rubber stamp</FONT>.</P>
