First, they checked to see what they could use. Carl's dad started peeling (peelling) the potatoes, onions, carrot (carrot and) and broccoli.
He saved the peels in a bag to make broth later. He added them to the kale salad.
Hooray! Their fridge was clean, and they didn't waste any food.
