원리강론 [008] - 총서 - 08

그러면 이제 과학(科學)의 갈 곳은 어디일 것인가? 지금까지의 과학의 연구 대상은 내적인 원인의 세계가 아니고 외적인 결과의 세계였으며, 본질(本質)의 세계가 아니고 현상(現象)의 세계였다.

그러나 오늘에 이르러 그의 대상은 외적이며 또한 결과적인 현상의 세계에서 내적이며 또한 원인적인 본질의 세계에로 그 차원을 높이지 않을 수 없는 단계에 들어오고 있다.

그리하여 그 원인적인 심령세계(心靈世界)에 대한 논리, 즉 내적 진리가 없이는 결과적인 실체세계(實體世界)에 대한 과학, 즉 외적 진리도 그 궁극적인 목적을 달성할 수 없다고 하는 결론을 얻기에 이르렀다.

이제 과학의 돛을 달고 외적인 진리의 항해를 마친 사공이 또 하나의 종교의 돛을 달고 내적인 진리의 항로에로 들어오게 될 때, 비로소 그는 본심이 지향하는 이상향(理想鄕)에로 항행(航行)할 수 있게 될 것이다.

それでは、科学が真に行くべきところはどこであろうか。今までの科学の研究対象は、内的な原因の世界ではなく、外的な結果の世界であった。本質の世界ではなくして、現象の世界であった。

しかし、今日に至っては、科学の対象は、外的な結果的な現象の世界から内的な原因的な本質の世界へと、その次元を高めなければならない段階に入ってきているのである。

ゆえに、その原因的な心霊世界に対する論理、すなわち内的な真理なくしては、結果的な実体世界に対する科学、すなわち外的な真理も、その究極的な目的を達成することはできないという結論を得るに至ったのである。

今や、科学の帆を揚げて外的な真理の航海を終えた船頭が、今また一つ宗教の帆を掲げて、内的な真理の航路へとその舳先を変えるとき、ここに初めて本心が指向する理想郷へと航海を進めていくことができるのである。

Where is science heading? Until now, scientific research has not embraced the internal world of cause; it has limited itself to the external world.

It has not embraced the world of essence, but has limited itself to the world of phenomena. However, science today is entering a new phase.
 
It is compelled to elevate its gaze from the external and resultant world of phenomena to the internal and causal world of essence.

The scientific world has begun to recognize that science cannot achieve its ultimate goals without a theoretical explanation of the causal, spiritual world.

When the sailor, who has completed his voyage in search of external truth under the sail of science, adds another sail, the sail of religion, and embarks on a new voyage in search of internal truth, he finally will be headed toward the destination for which his original mind yearns.
