Supersize Last Supper
Well, a supersizing of the Last Supper. Some people have been studying the meal portions and Christ and his disciples in that famous painting, and the changes throughout the centuries, might surprise you.
Nick Watt reports. A defining image of Western culture, a Leonardo masterpiece, painted by every artist worth his salt, parodied by everyone from Mel Brooks…
“Does everybody want soup?”
To The Simpson's “Ah, this is heaven.”
But, until now, no one has ever analyzed the whole reason, why Jesus and the Apostles are sitting down, the food. The portion size? “I’m into something here I can’t understand.” Inspired by the sideways thinking of The DaVinci Code, brothers Craig and Brian Wansink did just that.
Right now we’re looking at Leonardo’s classic painting. They pored over fifty-two renditions of Christ’s last meal. Over the course of about a thousand years, gradually, we began to see an increase, in plate sizes, in the size of main dishes, and in the size of bread. The entrees increased 69.2 percent in size and the bread, 23.1. So what? The whole supersizing phenomenon, which we see in the last twenty years or so, is really a phenomenon that has gone on for a long time. Throughout history, more food has been seen as better. So, what’s next? The postles chowing down on double chocolate sundaes?

11.3 Translation
