Report Concerning the African Chamber of Commerce, Las Vegas
On Saturday, February 29. Chris and Favor Usigbe held a membership meeting for their newly established African Chamber of Commerce. The Usigbe Couple had attended the World Summit. They were very inspired by the event and invited a dignitary they had met at the Summit to Las Vegas, to speak at their first membership meeting and membership drive. There were over 30 people attending, including leaders from the Indian Chamber of Commerce, as well as the Korean Chamber of Commerce. The meeting was well organized and attractive, including an excellent lunch, in spite of the short time they had to organize after their return from Korea.
Mr. Jean-Victor Nkolo, Senior Advisor from the United nation Office of Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect gave an in-depth discussion regarding the opportunity to connect with Africa in business, citing the richness of the resources and the desire of Africans to become independent of Europe. He cautioned against the misuse of children and resources. The difficulty of corruption was mentioned, but not as a large obstacle for business. He stressed that protecting women's rights and educating women is essential for the culture to develop and encourage engaging women in business.
One of our long time Ambassadors for Peace was present and glad to hear about the World Summit, as she will be attending the Commission for the Status of Women at the UN this month.
There was much sharing and positive support for the Usigbe's work.
Respectfully Submitted,
Leslie Rigney.
