서른살이었던 1994년  3월 2일에 시작하여 9월 4까지 마음에도 없던 

서울시 세무직공무원9급시험을 보았습니다.

태어나서 처음으로 생존을 위하 처절한 시험공부였습니다.

그것도 누나5의 협박과 굶주림에 못이겨........

그 당시 제 친구들은 대기업의 대리급으로 제가 9급 공무원이 되었다는 사실을 비웃던

그들에게는 아주 좋은 시절이었습니다 .그게 제 밥벌이로 될 줄은 생각하지 못한 시절이였습니다.

시험이 끝난 다음날 하루를 놀고 그 다음날부터 인력시장을 통해 막노동현장에서 노가다를

몇달간 했습니다.

그때 일터를 오갈 때 영어텍스트를 읽으려고 샀던 책이 Theasurus였던 한 권의 책과

원어민을 위한 용례도 제대로 들어있지 않은 영영사전을 몇달간 고생하여 보면서

원어사전을 보는 훈련을 하게 되었습니다.

그 후 시간이 날 때마다 교보문고 원서코너에 가 사전류를 눈여겨보았고,

새벽에 코리아헤럴드 학원에 다닐 때 영자신문 간지에 나오는 신간도서 코너를 보고

산 책들의 일부분입니다.

사무실에 책을 놔두면 하루중 제일 많은 시간을 차지하는 공간이라 손쉽게

꺼내보려고 굳이 일터에 놓아둡니다.

1995년 3월부터 2007년 5월 현재까지 아무도 원어만 있는 사전을 가져 가지는 않습니다.

사람마다 관심분야가 다르기 때문이겠지요.

요즘에는 시디나 온라인에서 볼 수 있는 원어사전을 위주로 자료를 구하고 있습니다.

문제는 영어를 잘 하지 못합니다,특히 듣기나 말은.

잘하는 것은 하나 있습니다.

포르노영화를 많이 봐 taboo slang이나 의성어 중심의 영어는 익숙하지요.

2007.5.11. 아침 사무실에서

그 당시 월급 본동이 280,000원이었습니다.

교본문고에 친구가 세 명이나 다녔고, 서점에만 아는 출판노조원이 몇명이 되어

30%나 싼 가격으로 책을 구입할 때였습니다.

Grade 8 Up-- Clear, explicit drawings and diagrams provide either exterior views or labeled cutaways of a variety of objects. The entries are arranged in broad subject categories with a color-coded bar on the page to facilitate browsing, but some of the colors are very similar. Many subject areas are covered: geography, architecture, anatomy, plants, animals, satellites, etc. The last section, symbols, provides easy access for some of those hard to find reference questions. The table of contents lists the 28 categories and the types of items illustrated. The index provides access when one knows the term and wants to identify its use. Browsing is addictive: students will eagerly seek out sections on weapons, transportation, and sports. An important source that helps to fill a gap in most collections--there are many word dictionaries, but very few pictorial ones.

다섯번째이나 샀다 잃어버린 책(휴대용)

교보문고의 영영사전 코너에 갔다 ^-^ 많은 사람들이 방대한 종류에 기가 질려서 베스트셀러인 모사전을^^;; 사가는걸 보고 나도 혹했었다^^하하~ 하지만 그 책은 두꺼운지라 실용적이면서도 영단어의 기본은 다 담은 책이 필요했다. 그래서 열심히 이 것 저 것 둘러보던 중 0_0 나의 눈길을 끈 사전이 바로 이 것이다 ^-^~! 이 책의 좋은 점은 개정판답게 새로운 단어가 두루 실려있으며, 기존의 갱지에서 벗어나;; 하얀 종이가 눈을 시원~하게 한다^//^

표제어는 파란블럭으로 표시되어 영어를 다시 시작하는 사람은 파란블럭부터 외워가도 좋을 듯 하다. 특히 중간중간의 16페이지나 되는 컬러화보는 기본적인 명사 동사등을 자세히 다루어 유치원생이 보아도 좋을 듯 하다^^ 이 책은 딱히 이용자를 정하기는 어렵다 ^-^ 영어를 처음 시작하는 중학생부터 영어를 다시 시작하는 성인까지 휴대하기 편하며 기본 단어는 두루 익힐 수 있는 사전을 원한다면 이 책을 추천한다 ^-^

영영사전의 거부감을 이 사전으로 없앤후 두꺼운 사전에 도전?하는게 영어를 친근하게 대하는 지름길이 될 것이다^^8

음... 전 이 사전을 구입한 지 이제 2~3달 정도 되어갑니다. 코빌드 사전을 구입한 후 많은 좌절(?)을 겪었죠. 어려운 풀이, 그리고 떨어지는 질, 눈에 들어오지 않는 다소 난잡한 편집 등등...

그러다가 롱맨의 이 책을 구입했습니다. 원래는 Activator를 구입하려 했는데, 정말 좋더군요. 특히 수업시간에 찾는 단어의 90% 이상이 나옵니다. 단점이라면, 그래도 작은 사전이라서 공부를 하시는 용도로 따로 한 권 가지고 계시는게 좋구요. 개인적으로 맥밀란이나, 롱맨 어메리칸 컬쳐, 그리고 캠브리지 이 세가지를 추천합니다.

다시 한번 말씀드리지만, 두껍고 무거운 사전을 가지고 다니기 힘드신 분들에게 아주 유용한 책입니다. 사전을 구입하시려면 꼭 먼저 서점에서 보신 후 맘에 드실때 구입하세요. 저처럼 코빌드 사서 후회하지 마시고... ㅡ,.ㅡ;

아주 훌륭한 사전입니다.

Macmillan English Dictionary - American v1.0

맥밀란 사전은, 영어를 공부하는 비영어권 사람들을 위해 만들어진 사전입니다. 영영사전은 이것이 가장 좋더군요. 당연한 얘기긴 하지만, 종이책으로 된 것보다 이런 CD-ROM 버전이 더 편리합니다.

사전 맨 우측에 보면, 단어 사용에서 주의해야 할 점 등이 친절하게 나옵니다. 가령 man 이라는 단어를 사람이라는 뜻으로 사용할 때 성차별적인 요소가 있으므로 people 등으로 바꾸어 볼 것을 제안합니다.

단어의 뜻풀이와 예제도 쉽고 재미있는 편이었습니다.

그런데 윈도우XP와의 호환성에 문제가 있어서 패치를 다운받아 적용시켜야 하더군요. 맥밀란뿐 아니라 사전 소프트웨어들은 거의 대부분 이런 OS호환성 문제가 있었습니다.
