1. 그 뒤에 예수님께서 유월절 엿새 전에 베다니에 이르셨는데 거기에는 이미 죽었던 나사로 곧 그분께서 죽은

    자들로부터 살리신 자가 있더라.

Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.

2. 거기서 그들이 그분을 위해 저녁 식사를 베풀었는데 마르다는 섬기고 나사로는 그분과 함께 상에 앉은 자들 중에

    있더라.

There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.

3. 그때에 마리아가 매우 값진 나드 향유 한 근을 가져다가 예수님의 발에 붓고 자기 머리털로 그분의 발을 닦으니

    향유 냄새가 집에 가득하더라.

Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.

4. 이에 그분의 제자들 가운데 하나로 그분을 배반하여 넘길 시몬의 아들 가룟 유다가 말하되,

Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simons [son], which should betray him,

5. 어찌하여 이 향유를 삼백 데나리온에 팔아 가난한 자들에게 주지 아니하였느냐? 하니

Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?

6. 그가 이렇게 말한 것은 가난한 자들을 염려하기 때문이 아니요, 도둑이므로 돈 가방을 맡아 그 안에 든 것을 가져갔기

    때문이더라.

This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.

7. 그때에 예수님께서 이르시되, 이 여자를 가만 두어라. 나를 장사지낼 날을 대비하여 그녀가 이것을 간직하였느니라.

Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this.

8. 가난한 자들은 항상 너희와 함께 있거니와 나는 항상 너희와 함께 있지 아니하니라, 하시니라.

For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.

9. 그러므로 유대인들 가운데 많은 사람들이 그분께서 거기 계신 줄을 알고 오니 이것은 예수님 때문만이 아니요

    그분께서 죽은 자들로부터 살리신 나사로도 보고자 함이더라.

Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.

10. 그러나 수제사장들이 나사로도 죽이려고 모의하니

But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;

11. 이는 그로 인해 유대인들 가운데 많은 사람들이 가서 예수님을 믿었기 때문이더라.

Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.

12. 그 다음 날 명절에 온 많은 사람들이 예수님께서 예루살렘으로 오신다는 말을 듣고

On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

13. 종려나무 가지를 가지고 그분을 맞으러 나가서 외치되, 호산나, 찬송하리로다. [주]의 이름으로 오시는 이스라엘의

      [왕]이여, 하더라.

Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed [is] the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.

14. 예수님께서 한 어린 나귀를 보시고 그 위에 타시니 이것은 기록된바,

And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,

15. 시온의 딸아, 두려워하지 말라. 보라, 네 [왕]이 임하시되 나귀 새끼 위에 앉아 임하시느니라, 함과 같더라.

Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an asss colt.

16. 그분의 제자들은 처음에 이것들을 깨닫지 못하였으나 예수님께서 영광을 받으신 뒤에 이것들이 그분에 대하여

      기록되었으며 그래서 그들이 그분께 이것들을 행하였음을 생각해 내니라.

These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and [that] they had done these things unto him.

17. 그러므로 그분께서 나사로를 그의 무덤에서 불러내어 죽은 자들로부터 살리실 때에 그분과 함께 있던 사람들이

      증언하니라.

The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record.

18. 이런 까닭에 또한 사람들이 그분을 맞이하였으니 이는 그들이 그분께서 이 기적을 행하셨음을 들었기 때문이더라.

For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle.

19. 그러므로 바리새인들이 자기들끼리 이르되, 너희가 아무것도 이루지 못하는 줄을 알지 못하느냐? 보라, 세상이

      그를 따르는도다, 하니라.

The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.

20. 그 명절에 경배하러 올라온 사람들 가운데 어떤 그리스 사람들이 있더라.

And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:

21. 그러므로 그 사람들이 갈릴리의 벳새다 사람 빌립에게 가서 그에게 청하여 이르되, 선생이여, 우리가 예수님을 뵙기

      원하나이다, 하니

The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.

22. 빌립이 안드레에게 가서 말하고 다시 안드레와 빌립이 예수님께 아뢰니라.

Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.

23. 예수님께서 그들에게 응답하여 이르시되, 사람의 [아들]이 영광을 받을 때가 왔도다.

And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.

24. 진실로 진실로 내가 너희에게 이르노니, 한 알의 밀이 땅에 떨어져 죽지 아니하면 홀로 남거니와 죽으면 많은

      열매를 맺느니라.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

25. 자기 생명을 사랑하는 자는 그것을 잃을 것이요, 이 세상에서 자기 생명을 미워하는 자는 영생에 이르도록 그것을

      간직하리라.

He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

26. 어떤 사람이 나를 섬기면 그는 나를 따를지니라. 내가 있는 곳에, 거기에 내 종도 있으리니 어떤 사람이 나를 섬기면

      내 [아버지]께서 그를 귀히 여기시리라.

If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will [my] Father honour.

27. 지금 내 혼이 괴로우니 내가 무슨 말을 하리요? [아버지]여, 이때로부터 나를 구원하여 주옵소서. 그러나 내가 이런

      까닭으로 이때까지 왔나이다.

Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.

28. [아버지]여, 아버지의 이름을 영화롭게 하옵소서, 하시니 이에 하늘에서 음성이 나서 이르시되, 내가 이미 그것을

      영화롭게 하였고 다시 영화롭게 하리라, 하시니라.

Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, [saying], I have both glorified [it], and will glorify [it] again.

29. 그러므로 곁에 서서 그것을 들은 사람들은 천둥이 쳤다고도 하며 다른 사람들은 이르기를, 천사가 그에게 말하였다,

      하니

The people therefore, that stood by, and heard [it], said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.

30. 예수님께서 응답하여 이르시되, 이 음성은 나 때문에 나지 아니하고 너희를 위해 났느니라.

Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.

31. 이제 이 세상에 대한 심판이 있으니 이제 이 세상의 통치자가 쫓겨나리라.

Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

32. 나 곧 내가 땅에서 들리면 모든 사람을 내게로 이끌리라, 하시니라.

And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all [men] unto me.

33. 그분께서 이것을 말씀하사 자신이 어떤 죽음으로 죽을지 표적으로 보여 주시니

This he said, signifying what death he should die.

34. 사람들이 그분께 응답하되, 우리는 율법에서 그리스도가 영원히 거하신다고 들었거늘 너는 어찌하여,

      사람의 [아들]이 반드시 들려야 하리라, 하느냐? 이 사람의 [아들]은 누구냐? 하매

The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?

35. 그때에 예수님께서 그들에게 이르시되, 아직 잠시 동안은 빛이 너희와 함께 있으니 너희에게 빛이 있을 동안에 다녀

      어둠이 너희 위에 임하지 않게 하라. 어둠 가운데 다니는 자는 자기가 가는 곳을 알지 못하느니라.

Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

36. 너희에게 빛이 있을 동안에 빛을 믿으라. 그리하면 너희가 빛의 자녀들이 되리라, 하시니라. 예수님께서 이것들을

      말씀하시고 떠나서 그들로부터 자신을 숨기시니라.

While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.

37. 그러나 그분께서 이렇게 많은 기적들을 그들 앞에서 행하셨음에도 불구하고 그들이 여전히 그분을 믿지

      아니하였으니

But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:

38. 이것은 대언자 이사야의 말씀을 성취하려 함이라. 그가 말하되, [주]여, 우리가 전한 것을 누가 믿었나이까?

      [주]의 팔이 누구에게 나타났나이까? 하였더라.

That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?

39. 그러므로 그들이 능히 믿지 못하였으니 그 까닭은 이사야가 다시 말하였기 때문이라. 이르되,

Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,

40. 그분께서 그들의 눈을 멀게 하시고 그들의 마음을 강퍅하게 하셨으니 이것은 그들이 눈으로 보고 마음으로 깨달아

      회심하여 내게 고침을 받지 못하게 하려 함이라, 하였더라.

He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with [their] eyes, nor understand with [their] heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

41. 이것들은 이사야가 그분의 영광을 보고 그분에 대해 말하였을 때에 이른 것이더라.

These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.

42. 그럼에도 불구하고 우두머리 치리자들 중에서도 많은 사람들이 그분을 믿되 바리새인들로 인해 회당에서 쫓겨날까

      염려하여 그분을 시인하지 못하였으니

Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess [him], lest they should be put out of the synagogue:

43. 이는 그들이 사람들의 칭찬을 [하나님]의 칭찬보다 더 사랑하였기 때문이더라.

For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

44. 예수님께서 외쳐 이르시되, 나를 믿는 자는 나를 믿지 아니하고 나를 보내신 분을 믿으며

Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.

45. 나를 보는 자는 나를 보내신 분을 보느니라.

And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.

46. 나는 빛으로 세상에 왔나니 이것은 누구든지 나를 믿는 자는 어둠에 거하지 아니하게 하려 함이로다.

I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

47. 사람이 내 말들을 듣고 믿지 아니할지라도 내가 그를 심판하지 아니하노라. 나는 세상을 심판하러 오지 아니하고

      세상을 구원하러 왔노라.

And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

48. 나를 거절하고 내 말들을 받아들이지 아니하는 자에게는 심판하는 이가 있으니 곧 내가 한 말 바로 그 말이 마지막

      날에 그를 심판하리라.

He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

49.나는 스스로 말하지 아니하였고 나를 보내신 [아버지]가 내가 이를 것과 말할 것을 친히 내게 명령으로 주셨느니라.

For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

50. 나는 그분의 명령이 영존하는 생명인 줄 아노라. 그러므로 내가 무엇을 말하든지 [아버지]께서 내게 말씀하신

      그대로 내가 말하노라, 하시니라.

And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
