<P>Allen Iverson’s stepfather has been indicted on federal drug distribution charges. </P>

<P>Michael Andre Freeman, 51, of Newport News, Va., was scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Norfolk on Friday for a bond hearing, but the case was postponed by a week to give Freeman time to hire an attorney. </P>
<P> </P>
<P>Freeman initially was arrested by Newport News police in April after police found crack cocaine in his car during a traffic stop, according to court records. </P>
<P> </P>
<P>Those charges were dropped this week in favor of the federal prosecution. The federal indictment charged Freeman with possession of crack cocaine with the intent to distribute. He remains in jail pending the bond hearing. </P>
<P> </P>
<P>Iverson refers to Freeman as his “dad,” and credits Freeman with steering him toward NBA stardom.</P>
