A website of the U.S. Army’s declassified photos “Area 51” has caught the attention of journalists and general public.

“Area 51” is a military region in the remote Nevada desert created in 1955 to test and develop top secret U.S. military projects. It grabbed public attention as a conspiracy theory that it has kept the alien corpses and crashed UFOs spread.

The declassified photos are mysterious. The topmost photo features a replica of A-12, a spy plane, put up to test its visibility to enemy radar. The second one is a U-2 spy plane, wrapped in sheets. The next is a prototype of A-12, another spy plane.

The last photo comes as a shock. The figure on the right bears a cunning resemblance to the alien costumes of 1950s b-movies. Is it the first-ever official photo of an alien? No, it turns out to be a pilot being fitted into a partial pressure suit.

미 정보기관과 미군의 비밀 해제된 사진을 공개하는 한 사이트가 이른바 '51 구역'에서 촬영된 사진들을 게재해 해외 언론들의 주목을 받고 있다.

51구역은 미국 네바다 주에 위치한 군사 지역으로, 추락한 UFO와 외계인 시신이 이곳으로 옮겨져 보관되고 있다는 음모론이 퍼지면서 주목을 받은 곳이다. 좀 더 이성적인 설명으로는 첨단 전투기나 미사일 등 비밀 병기를 개발하는 곳이라는 설도 있다.

공개된 사진들은 그야말로 미스터리다. 맨 위는 A-12 모조품을 만들어 레이더 테스트를 하는 장면을 담은 사진이라고 한다. 두 번째 위장된 U-2인 것으로 알려졌다. 그 다음은 티타늄으로 만든 A-12의 프로토타입이다.

맨 아래 사진이 잠시 시각적 '충격'을 준다. 혹시 최초로 공개되는 외계인 모습일까. U-2 파일럿을 위한 압력 복이라는 설명이다.
