주간묵상 25-21

<염소는 랍비가 될 수 없다>

랍비, 검은색 양복과 모자,

긴 수염과 땋은 옆머리 등

전통적인 복장과 용모,

춥거나 덥거나 불편하거나

임의로 바꿀 수 없는 모습.

소속된 공동체의 영적지도자.

몇 년 전 하임카니에프스키의

장례식엔 50만 여명의 조문객,

사고를 우려한 정부의

자제 요청에도 대거운집.

그만큼 존경받는 지도자 랍비.

수염과 랍비에 관련된

탈무드와 속담의 일화.

"염소도 수염이 있지만 랍비는 아니다“

"수염이 지혜를 의미한다면,

염소는 예언자일 것이다.“

"수염이 철학자를 만드는 것은 아니다."

진정한 인격의 가치는

외모가 아닌 내면에 있다는 것.

수염을 미는 면도는 피부상처,

출혈로 인한 부정(레15장).

면도 후 현미경으로 피부 관찰,

예리한 칼로 난도질 한 것 같은

피부 손상과 출혈.

면도는 출혈에 의한 부정 상징.

영적지도자인 랍비는

성결을 위하여 세심한 것까지

철저한 규제와 배려,

고로 수염을 밀어서는 안 된다.

(레위기 19:27).

성결을 위하여

“악은 어떤 모양이라도

버리라”(살전 5:22).

랍비는 “예시바”라는

유대교 신학교에서

엄격한 율법교육 후

자격을 부여받아,

율법을 해석하고 가르치며,

율법에 근거하여

사리를 분별하고 판단한다.

유대인기업체 이사진 중에는

반드시 랍비 1명이 포함되어,

이사회의 결정된 사항을

랍비가 율법위배여부 확인 후

최종 확정한다.

랍비가 부결시키면

이사장이라도 그 이유를

묻지도, 따지지 않는다.

엄청난 손해를 보더라도

랍비의 결정에 따른다.

“수염이 있다고 염소도 랍비인가?”

“로봇이 성경을 암기한다고 목사인가?”

“허수아비가 옷을 입었다고 농부인가?”

“앵무새가 말을 잘한다고 아나운서인가?

언젠가부터 나름대로

죽음의 고백으로 검정양복을,

보혈의 상징으로 붉은 타이를,

겸손의 표시로 모자를 쓰고,

거울 앞에 서서

너는 목사인가? 염소인가?

자문자답을 한다. 답은 51:49(?)

대선을 앞두고

어중이떠중이, 가물치, 몽둥이,

골목골목을 누비며,

깃털 같은 공약(空約)을 날린다.

염소는 랍비가 될 수 없다.

외형은 화려하지 않더라도

인격적인 지도자가 세워지기를-

<A Goat Cannot Become a Rabbi>

Rabbi, in a black suit and hat,

With a long beard and braided side curls,

Traditional attire and appearance,

Unchanged, whether in cold or heat,

Unalterable at will.

A spiritual leader of the community.

A few years ago, at the funeral of Chaim Kanievsky,

Half a million mourners gathered,

Despite government warnings

Fearing accidents.

Such is the reverence for a true rabbi.

Tales from the Talmud and proverbs

Linking the beard and the rabbi:

“A goat may have a beard, but it is not a rabbi.”

“If a beard signifies wisdom,

Then a goat would be a prophet.”

“A beard does not make a philosopher.”

True character is measured

Not by appearance, but by the heart.

Shaving a beard risks skin wounds,

Impurity through bleeding (Leviticus 15).

Microscopic examination of shaved skin,

Reveals cuts and blood stains,

Shaving symbolizes impurity.

A rabbi, as a spiritual leader,

Strictly observes the rules of purity,

Even in the smallest details.

Thus, shaving the beard is forbidden (Leviticus 19:27).

“Abstain from every appearance of evil” (1 Thessalonians 5:22).

A rabbi is qualified through

Rigorous Torah education at a Yeshiva,

Interpreting and teaching the law,

Judging matters based on its principles.

In Jewish companies, a rabbi is included

Among the board of directors,

Reviewing decisions for legal compliance.

If the rabbi rejects a decision,

Not even the chairman can question it.

Even at great loss, the rabbi's decision is final.

“Does having a beard make a goat a rabbi?”

“Does memorizing the Bible make a robot a pastor?”

“Does wearing clothes make a scarecrow a farmer?”

“Does speaking well make a parrot an announcer?”

Since some time ago, I have stood before the mirror,

Wearing a black suit as a symbol of death,

A red tie as a sign of the blood of sacrifice,

A hat as a mark of humility,

Asking myself,

“Are you a pastor or a goat?”

I answer myself: 51:49(?).

As elections approach,

The streets are filled with nobodies,

Catfish and cudgels,

Fluttering their empty promises.

A goat cannot become a rabbi.

May a true leader of character arise,

Even if lacking in glamorous appearance.
