 Chapter 1. Upper Classic : 21 Teachings, 157 Deeds.

제2 강령 信(신).....믿음.....第55事

 The 2nd Principles : Trust(Shin)... Faith... The 55th Deed.

제1단 義(의)......마땅히 해야 할 일을 실행함......第56事

 The 1st Stage : Righteousness(Ui)... Executing what must rightfully be done... the  56th Deed.

제4부 不貳(불이)......둘로 하지 아니함......第60事

 Part 4 : Bu-i (Singieness of Mind) / Non- Duality.... Not having two different minds... Article 60.

不貳(불이)는 사람들에게 두 가지 마음을 갖지 않음이다.

 Bu-i means that peopie do not hold divided minds(or conflicting intentions).

물은 한번 흘러가면 돌아오지 않으며

의로운 사람은 한번 허락하면 다시 마음을 바꾸는 일이 없다.

 Just as water , once it flows awoy, never returns,

 a righteous person, dnce they give their word, never cchanges their mind.
따라서 일에 있어서 그 끝마침에 연연하여 두가지 마음을 갖는 것이 아니라
그 일을 처음 시작할 때의 마음을 바꾸지 않음이 소중한 것이다.

 Therefore, when dealing with a task, one should not become obsessively anxious about

 the final outcome and waver with a divided mind,

 rather, what is truly precious is remaining faithful to the original mindset one had

 when first starting the endeavor.

不貳者는 不貳於人也라 (불이자는 불이어인야라)
  One wwho practices Bu-i does not display duplicity toward others.

流水는 一去而不返하고 (유수는 일거이불반하고)

 Flowing water, once gone, does not return,

義人은 一諾而不改라 (의인은 일락이불개라)

 A righteous person, once a promise is made, does not alter it.

故로 不重其克終이리요만 重其有始니라. (고로 불중기극종이리요만 중기유시니라.)

 Therefore, it is not merely the successful completion that is valued,

  but rather holding fast to the initial commitment made at the very beginning.
