시험의 때에 안전하게 지키심

Kept Safe in the Hour of Temptation

“네가 나의 인내의 말씀을 지켰은즉 내가 또한 너희를 지키어 시험의 때를 면하게 하리니...” (계 3:10)

Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. Rev. 3:10.

선의 세력과 악의 세력, 하나님의 천사들과 타락한 천사들 사이에는 계속적인 싸움이 있다. 우리는 전후좌우로 포위되어 있다. 우리가 겪고 있는 투쟁은 우리가 세상에서 마지막으로 치를 것이다. 우리는 지금 그 싸움의 한 가운데 있다. 두 진영이 최상권을 잡기 위해 다투고 있다. 이 싸움에서 중립은 있을 수 없다. 이 편이든지 저 편이든지 서야만 한다. 만일 우리가 그리스도의 편에 선다면, 세상 앞에서 말과 일에 있어서 그를 인정한다면, 우리는 누구를 섬기고 존경하는지에 대한 산 증언을 하고 있는 것이다. 지상 역사의 이 중요한 시기에 우리가 어느 편에 있는지에 대해 어느 누구도 어정쩡한 태도를 취해서는 안 된다.

“네가 나의 인내의 말씀을 지켰은즉 내가 또한 너를 지키어 시험의 때를 면하게 하리니 이는 장차 온 세상에 임하여 땅에 거하는 자들을 시험할 때라” (계 3:10)
이 말씀을 보면 성경은 지상에 거하는 자들을 시험하는 시험의 때를 바라보고 있다. 우리는 지금 이 시련의 시간에 살고 있다. 이 싸움에서 빠져나갈 탈출구는 어느 누구에게도 없다. 만일 그대의 삶에서 극복하지 못하고 있는 품성의 결함이 있다면, 그대는 대적이 그것들로 인해 이득을 얻으려 노력할 것이라고 확신해도 된다. 그는 모든 이의 믿음을 손상시키려고 불철주야 깨어 있다.

대적의 포위 공세에 승리하기 위해서, 우리는 밖에 있는 위의 권세를 붙잡아야 한다. 그리스도께서는 믿음과 겸손의 태도를 지니고 있는 모든 영혼에게 승리를 주실 권세를 가지고 계신다. 우리는 그분과 지속적으로 살아 있는 관계를 유지해야 한다. 만일 자만하여서 우리가 기뻐하는 대로 계속하겠다고 생각하다가 마지막에 옳은 쪽으로 나가기를 희망한다면, 우리는 심각한 잘못을 범하고 있다는 것을 알게 될 것이다. 이기는 자의 상급을 받기 원하는 우리들은 매 걸음마다 반대에 직면할지라도 그리스도인 전쟁 안에서 전진해 나가야 한다. - 리뷰 앤드 헤랄드, 1908. 7. 9

A battle is continually going on between the forces for good and the forces for evil, between the angels of God and the fallen angels. We are beset before and behind, on the right hand and on the left. The conflict that we are passing through is the last we shall have in this world. We are now in the midst of it. Two parties are striving for the supremacy. In this conflict we cannot be neutral. We must stand either on one side or on the other. If we take our position on the side of Christ, if we acknowledge Him before the world in word and work, we are bearing a living testimony as to whom we have chosen to serve and honor. In this important period of earth's history, we cannot afford to leave anyone in uncertainty as to whose side we are on. . . .

"Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth." In this scripture is brought to view the hour of temptation that is to try them that dwell upon the earth. We are now living in this trying hour. There is no escape for any from this conflict. If in your life there are defective traits of character that you are not striving to overcome, you may be assured that the enemy will endeavor to take advantage of them; for he is watching vigilantly, seeking to spoil the faith of everyone.

In order to gain the victory over every besetment of the enemy, we must lay hold on a power that is out of and beyond ourselves. We must maintain a constant, living connection with Christ, who has power to give victory to every soul that will maintain an attitude of faith and humility. If we are self-sufficient, and think that we may go on just as we please, and yet hope to come out on the right side finally, we shall find that we have made a terrible mistake. As those who hope to receive the overcomer's reward, we must press forward in the Christian warfare, though at every advance we meet with opposition.--Review and Herald, July 9, 1908.
