DIANE SAWYER (ABC NEWS)(OC): And shortly before we came on the air tonight big news about Facebook. Because there are reports that this time tomorrow Facebook and its founder Mark Zuckerberg will be on their way to mounting one of the largest public offerings in history. And I want to bring in ABC's Bill Weir who's been watching this so closely. What does this mean for Zuckerberg? This is history at a thousand different levels.
BILL WEIR (ABC NEWS)(OC): This means this 27-year-old can buy a lot of hoodies because when they start trading this company publicly on stock exchanges his net worth will be roughly $20 billion, $25 billion, putting him in the top 15 in the world's richest people.
BILL WEIR (ABC NEWS)(VO): And he'll be bringing a lot of his employees with him, about 3,000 people work out there in California on Facebook, coders and advertisers and all these people, and about a thousand of them will become multimillionaires the minute the stock starts trading.
DIANE SAWYER (ABC NEWS)(VO): A thousand of them.
BILL WEIR (ABC NEWS)(OC): Yeah. When they were hired depending on when you joined the company you're allowed to buy a certain amount of shares and once this hits the market, they are going to be rich. Mommas, let your babies grow up to be coders.
DIANE SAWYER (ABC NEWS)(OC): Lot of lives change tomorrow. And what does this mean around the world? What does it signal to the rest of the world? I was asking you about China. Where does this rank among Chinese companies?
BILL WEIR (ABC NEWS)(OC): Well, there's only about a half dozen Chinese companies and that includes oil companies that are worth more than the hundred billion dollars that a lot of people are putting on Facebook in terms of value.
BILL WEIR (ABC NEWS)(VO): And that's very staggering, but some debate the value of this company. Now, they have 800 million users. Only China and India have bigger populations than Facebook.
BILL WEIR (ABC NEWS)(OC): And that's a fat target for advertisers, but there will be a lot of debate in coming months about exactly how much this company is worth. But at the end of the day, this is a company that started eight years ago next month in a dorm room, four Harvard dropouts.
DIANE SAWYER (ABC NEWS)(OC): And the giant idea will be put to the test tomorrow.
BILL WEIR (ABC NEWS)(OC): Exactly.
