I happened to know that tomrrow is the winter solstice.
In fact, I've known just that people usually eat red-bean porridge on the day.
What on earth is the winter solstice?
My curiosity made me look into what the solstice is.
Finally, surfing the Internet enabled me to know what it is.
The winter solstice is the time when the daytime is the shortest and the other hand, the nighttime is the longest of a year.
Long time ago people thought the winter solstice a happy day, regarding it as the day when the sun comes to life again.
On the day, people are supposed to eat rice and red-bean porriage, whose color used to be considered a matter of repulsing evil spirits.
They say that people used to even spray the rice and red-bean porridge everywhere aroud houses.
In addition, it is said that they put red-beans into a well to drive the disease away when a contagious disease was prevailing throughout the village.
....
What are you going to do tomorrow? I think most people don't know that tomorrow is the winter solstice. However, on the contraray,it seems that most old pople have celebrated the day for years. Therefore, I think that we had better call our parents to inquire after at least.
I already know it, because we must prepare event for it every year in my work space. I also have known traditon of red bean. Our ancesters lost their young babies too easily by disease and they believed that evil got away babies' spirit
and red color of red bean took effect to prevent evils from approaching them. Thus, when a child was a month old, they made rice cake of read beans. Anyway, I can have red bean porridge in my work space tomorrow. Now, my mouth is watering.
