親(친)이란 일가 친속 및 친근하게 지내는 사람이다.
Chin(closeness/ kinship) refers to one′s relatives,
family members, and those with whom one shares a close personal relationship.
義(의)란 친하게 지내거나 멀리함이 있는 것이 아니다.
Ui(righteousness/ justice) does not depend on whether someone
is close to you or distant from you.
義(의)가 있으면 비록 소원하게 지내는 사이라도 반드시 합하게 되고
의롭지 못하다면 비록 친한 사이라 해도 반드시 버림이 있게 된다.
Where righteousness is present, even those who have drifted apart
or are estranged will bound to come together in harmony.
Conversely, if righteousness is lacking, even those in a close relationship
will inevitabiy end up abandoning each other.

親은 親屬及親近也라 (친은 친속급친근야라)
Chin encompasses bith one′s relatives and those who are personally close.
義는 無昵親斥疎니 義則雖疎나 心合하고 (의는 무닐친척소니 의즉수소나 심합하고)
Righteousness knows no favoritism toward the intimate nor rejection toward the distant,
if there is righteousness, though people may be distant, their hearts will unite.
不義則雖親이나 必棄니라 (불의즉수친이나 필기니라.)
If there is no righteousness, though they may be close,
they will surely abandon one another.
