Raptors Acquire Archibald

(January 2, 2004) --The Toronto Raptors announced Friday they have acquired forward Robert Archibald from the Orlando Magic for centre Mengke Bateer (moanK BAHter), the rights to 2003 second-round draft choice Remon Van de

Hare and the option to exchange second-round draft positions in the 2005 NBA Draft.

Archibald, 6-foot-11, 250 pounds, is the first native of Scotland to appear in an NBA game. He has played in 14 career games in two seasons, totaling 22 points and 19 rebounds in 82 minutes. He has scored three points and grabbed two rebounds in two games this season. The Magic acquired Archibald from the Phoenix Suns on December 26 for a future conditional second-round draft pick.

Archibald was selected in the second round (32nd overall) of the 2002 NBA Draft by Memphis. He saw action in 12 games with the Grizzlies last season where he totaled 19 points and 12 rebounds in 72 minutes. He was traded from Memphis to Phoenix on September 30 as part of a five-player deal.

Mengke averaged 1.1 points, 1.1 rebounds and 5.7 minutes in seven games with Toronto. He was signed as a free agent July 17. Van de Hare is currently playing in Spain.
