Year 3 IPC Theme: Active Planet

In our exciting IPC topic "Active Planet", Year 3 students have embarked on a thrilling journey to explore the powerful natural forces that shape our world — with a special spotlight on volcanoes.

The children have learned how volcanoes are formed, what triggers eruptions, and the different types of volcanoes, including shield, composite, and cinder cone volcanoes. Through interactive lessons and hands-on activities, they explored the inner structure of a volcano and what happens beneath the Earth’s surface.

We also investigated famous volcanoes around the world, such as Mount Vesuvius in Italy, Mount Fuji in Japan, and Mauna Loa in Hawaii. A highlight of our learning was the Ring of Fire — a horseshoe-shaped zone in the Pacific Ocean known for its intense volcanic and seismic activity. Students were amazed to discover that many of the world’s most active volcanoes are found along this ring.

Through model-making, research projects, and group discussions, our budding geographers developed a deeper understanding of how volcanoes affect both the environment and human lives. Along the way, they strengthened key skills in geography, science, and communication — all while satisfying their natural curiosity about our dynamic Earth.

흥미로운 IPC 주제인 "액티브 플래닛"에서 3학년 학생들은 화산에 대한 특별한 스포트라이트를 받으며 우리 세계를 형성하는 강력한 자연력을 탐험하는 스릴 넘치는 여정을 시작했습니다.
아이들은 화산이 어떻게 형성되고 폭발을 유발하는지, 방패, 복합 화산, 신더 원뿔 화산 등 다양한 종류의 화산을 배웠습니다. 대화형 수업과 실습 활동을 통해 화산의 내부 구조와 지표면 아래에서 일어나는 일을 탐구했습니다.
또한 이탈리아의 베수비오산, 일본의 후지산, 하와이의 마우나 로아 등 전 세계적으로 유명한 화산도 조사했습니다. 이번 연구의 하이라이트는 화산과 지진 활동이 격렬한 것으로 유명한 태평양의 말굽 모양 지대인 '불의 고리'였습니다. 학생들은 이 고리를 따라 세계에서 가장 활화산이 많이 발견된다는 사실에 놀랐습니다.
모델 제작, 연구 프로젝트, 그룹 토론을 통해 신진 지리학자들은 화산이 환경과 인간의 삶에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 더 깊이 이해하게 되었습니다. 그 과정에서 그들은 역동적인 지구에 대한 자연스러운 호기심을 충족시키면서 지리, 과학, 커뮤니케이션의 핵심 기술을 강화했습니다.
