Jesus, Our Atoning Sacrifice ㅡ

 “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God” (1 Peter 3:18).

Jesus was the majesty of heaven, the beloved commander of the angels, who delighted to do His pleasure.

He was one with God, “in the bosom of the Father” (John 1:18), yet He thought it not a thing to be desired to be equal with God while man was lost in sin and misery.

He stepped down from His throne, He left His crown and royal scepter, and clothed His divinity with humanity.

He humbled Himself even to the death of the cross, that man might be exalted to a seat with Him upon His throne.

In Him we have a complete offering, an infinite sacrifice, a mighty Saviour, who is able to save unto the uttermost all that come unto God by Him.

In love He comes to reveal the Father, to reconcile man to God, to make him a new creature renewed after the image of Him who created him.

Jesus is our atoning sacrifice.

We can make no atonement for ourselves; but by faith we can accept the atonement that has been made.

“Ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, ...but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot” (1 Peter 1:18, 19).

It was through infinite sacrifice and inexpressible suffering that our Redeemer placed redemption within our reach.

He was in this world unhonored and unknown, that, through His wonderful condescension and humiliation, He might exalt man to receive eternal honors and immortal joys in the heavenly courts.

우리의 대속제물이 되신 예수님 ㅡ

 “그리스도께서도 한 번 죄를 위하여 죽으사 의인으로서 불의한 자를 대신하셨으니 이는 우리를 하나님 앞으로 인도하려 하심이라” (벧전 3:18)

 예수님께서는 하늘의 대주재이셨으며 천사들의 사랑하는 사령관이셨고 당신의 기뻐하시는 바를 즐거이 행하시는 분이셨다.

주님께서는 하나님과 하나가 되신 분이셨으며 “아버지의 품 속에” (요 1:18) 계셨으나 인간이 죄와 불행 가운데서 멸망에 이르게 되었을 때에 하나님과 동등됨을 취할 것을 바라지 않으셨다.

주님께서는 당신의 보좌에서 내려오셨으며 당신의 면류관과 왕의 홀(笏)을 버리셨고 당신의 신성을 인성으로 옷 입히셨다.

주님께서는 인간을 높여 당신과 더불어 보좌에 앉히시기 위하여 자신을 낮추셨으며 십자가에서 돌아가시기까지 하셨다.

우리는 주님 안에서 완전한 제물과 무한한 희생을 발견하게 되며 당신을 힘입어 하나님께 나오는 모든 영혼들과 가장 미천한 자들까지도 구원하실 수 있는 강하신 구세주를 발견하게 된다.

주님께서는 사랑으로써 하늘 아버지를 나타내며 인간을 하나님과 화목시키고 인간을 창조하신 당신의 형상을 따라 새로운 피조물로 만드시기 위하여 이 세상에 오셨다.

예수님께서는 우리의 대속제물이시다.

우리는 우리 자신을 위하여 대속할 수 없다.

그러나 우리는 믿음으로 이미 이루어진 대속을 받아들일 수는 있다.

“너희가 알거니와 … 구속된 것은 … 없어질 것으로 한 것이 아니요 오직 흠없고 점없는 어린 양 같은 그리스도의 보배로운 피로 한 것이니라” (벧전 1:18, 19).

구원이 우리 모든 인간에게 이르게 된 것은 우리 구세주께서 무한하신 희생을 치르시고 형언할 수 없는 고난을 당하신 때문이었다.

주님께서는 이 세상에 계실 때에 존대를 받지 못하셨고 알려지지 않으셨다.

당신의 놀라우신 겸비와 굴욕적인 생애를 통하여 주님께서는 인간을 높여 하늘 궁전에서 맛볼 수 있는 영원한 명예와 불멸의 기쁨을 맛보게 하실 수 있으셨다.
