제2 강령 信(신).....믿음.....第55事

 The 2nd Principles : Trust(Shin)... Faith... The 55th Deed.

제1단 義(의)......마땅히 해야 할 일을 실행함......第56事

 The 1st Stage : Righteousness(Ui)... Executing what must rightfully be done... the  56th Deed.

제7부 虛誑(허광)......거짓말로 속임이 없음......第63事

 Part 7 : Heogwang(虛誑,허광) ... No Deception Through Lies ... Item 63.

虛誑(허광)은 거짓말로서 사람을 기만함이다.

 "Heogwang(虛誑,허광)" means deceiving people through lies and falsehoods.

올바른 사람이 나를 믿는다면 나도 역시 그 사람을 믿게 된다.

 If righteous person trusts me, I, too, come to trust that person.

올바른 사람이 나에게 義(의)로서 대한다면 나도 역시 그 사람에게 義(의)로서 대하게 된다.

 If righteous person treats me with righteousness(義,의),

 I, too, will treat that person with righteousness.

올바른 사람이 어려움에 처해 있다면 나는 의당 그를 구한다.

 If a righteous person is in trouble, I ought to (naturally) rescue him.

그러나 기만함이 아니라도 짤막한 한마디의 말로 이루려 함은 옳지 않은 것이다.

 However, even if it is not outright deception,

 trying to achieve something through a mere brief, careless word is not right.

스스로의 작은 절개를 버리고 信義(신의)에 결함을 내지 않는 것을
哲人(철인)은 허물로 생각하지 않는다.

 A wise sage(哲人,철인)  does not consider it fault to abandon one′s 

 own minor personal integrity (or rigid principles) to ensure

 that there is no flaw in a greater, mutual trust and loyalty(信義,신의).

虛誑者는 虛言誑人也라 (허광자는 허언광인야라)
  A deceiver is one who deceives others with empty words.

正人信我에 我亦信其人하고 (정인신아에 아역신기인하고)
 When a righteous person trusts me, I, too, shall trust that person.

正人義我에 我亦義其人하니 (정인의아에 아역의기인하니)
 When a righteous person treats me with righteousness, 

  I, too, shall treat that person with righteousness.

正人有難에 我當救之요 (정인유난에 아당구지요)
 When a righteous person is in trouble,

  it is only right that I should rescue them.

非誑이라도 不可用片言成之나 (비광이라도 불가용편언성지나)
 Even if itis not an intentinal lie ,

  ane should not try to settle or fulfill things with just a few words.

棄小節而全信義者는 哲人도 不咎焉이니라.(기소절이전신의자는 철인도 불구언이니라.)
 Even a wise sage will not blame someone who disregards minor formalites

 in order to preserve greater trust and righteousness.

의로운 사람이 어려움에 처해 있을 때 자신이 마땅히 해야 할 일이 무엇인지 알면서도
그 일을 실행해야 할 용기와 의로움 없이 단지 입바른 말 몇 마디로 대신 하려한다면
그건 말하지 않음만 못하다.

 "When a righteous person is in trouble,

   if you know what you ought to do but lack the courage and righteousness

   to act ― attempting instead to replace action with a few smooth,

   plausible words  ―  it is far better to say nothing at all."
