주간묵상 26-08

〈왕이 없는 교회〉

“이스라엘에 왕이 없으므로

사람마다 자기 소견에 옳은 대로

행하였더라.” (삿 21:25)

사사기 마지막 장면

한 여인의 처참한 죽음,

시신을 12토막을 내서 각 지파로-

약 40만 명 이상 군대 동원

형제간 치열한 전투, 수만 명 죽음

한 지파 진멸 위기,

이스라엘의 가장 치욕적인 비극

원인은 “왕이 없으므로”

사사기 19-21장 정독해 보세요.

왕이 없으므로

형제는 형제를 향해 칼을 휘두르고,

지파는 지파를 향해 창을 던졌다.

각각 자기의 소견대로-

각자가 왕이 되는 순간

질서는 깨지고, 공동체는 파괴.

2003년 4월,

후세인 정권이 붕괴되자

이라크 바그다드는 무법천지

일시적 왕권의 부재로

통치력의 상실.

병원, 박물관, 정부기관,

외국 대사관 등에

폭도들의 약탈과 방화.

병원의 의료기구, 장비, 산소통,

침대, 전기설비까지 뜯겨 나갔다.

의사들은 총을 들고

병원을 지켜야 했다고-

당시 뉴스에

사사기의 마지막 부분이나

이라크 바그다드 사건은

인간 본성의 단면이다.

권위가 사라지면, 탐욕이 올라오고,

책임이 사라지면, 본능이 지배하고,

통제가 사라지면, 양심도 무너진다.

스프링은 제어장치가 풀리면

튀어나가는 본성이 있듯이

양심은 제어장치가 없으면

살인도 서슴없이 감행한다.

법과 도덕과 정권은 제어장치

통치는 그리스도.

성령은 절제의 영이며

성령이 없는 양심은

겉으로는 멀쩡해 보여도

탐욕이 사랑을 약탈하고,

분노가 평안을 약탈하고,

교만이 겸손을 약탈한다.

진정한 질서는

강한 통제에서 오는 것이 아니라

참된 왕의 통치에서 온다.

교회는 그리스도의 통치를 받는가?

불꽃 튀는 한국교회-

미워만 해도 이미 살인

음욕을 품기만 해도 이미 간음

욕심만 가져도 이미 약탈

왕이 없으면

우리의 왕은 누구인가?

그분의 통치가

내 생각을 다스리고

내 감정을 다스리고

내 판단을 다스릴 때

비로소 평화는 시작된다.

〈A Church Without a King〉

“In those days Israel had no king;

everyone did as they saw fit.”

(Judges 21:25)

The final scene of Judges—

the horrific death of a woman,

her body cut into twelve pieces and sent to the tribes.

Over four hundred thousand soldiers mobilized.

Fierce war among brothers.

Tens of thousands dead.

One tribe nearly annihilated—

the most shameful tragedy in Israel’s history.

The reason: there was no king.

Read Judges chapters 19–21 carefully.

Because there was no king,

brother raised the sword against brother,

tribe hurled the spear against tribe.

Each did what was right in his own eyes.

The moment each person becomes his own king,

order collapses

and community disintegrates.

April 2003.

When Saddam Hussein’s regime fell,

Baghdad became a lawless city.

The temporary absence of authority

meant the loss of governance.

Hospitals, museums, government buildings,

even foreign embassies

were looted and burned by mobs.

Medical instruments, equipment, oxygen tanks,

beds, even electrical systems were torn out.

Doctors reportedly had to carry guns

to protect their hospitals—

so the news said at the time.

The ending of Judges

and the events in Baghdad

reveal a fragment of human nature.

When authority disappears, greed rises.

When responsibility disappears, instinct rules.

When restraint disappears, conscience collapses.

Like a spring that bursts outward

when its restraint is released,

human conscience without restraint

does not hesitate even to kill.

Law, morality, and government restrain—

but true governance belongs to Christ.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of self-control.

Conscience without the Spirit

may appear normal outwardly,

yet greed plunders love,

anger plunders peace,

and pride plunders humility.

True order

does not come from stronger control,

but from the reign of the true King.

Is the Church under the rule of Christ?

The Korean church burns with conflict—

To hate is already murder.

To lust is already adultery.

To covet is already robbery.

When there is no King—

Who is our King?

When His reign governs

my thoughts,

my emotions,

and my judgments,

only then does peace begin.

May the festival welcoming the Messiah-King

overflow with joy and happiness.
