Can gender socialization solve gender gap in society ? _ Jacky

I have a younger brother. My brother, Hyo-joong, is the only son born to my family. My father, too. I think my brother and father have been brought up in relatively conservative family. My grandfather, like many other grandfather, used to put emphasis on the role of the only son of the only son. Amid hopes of family to manage a household, however, Hyo-joong is very sociable, amiable, thoughtful and caring. Whenever he make a phone call to me, he always says, "Dear, how are you doing with your study? No matter how busy you are, don't skip the meal. Dear, I love you. I miss you so much."

Ok, then let me see how I am. I am more ambitious, aggressive, impatient and control-liking. While my brother pays attention more on his family and friends, I am much interested in the great cause. I took it for truth as a fact that our differences are the individual differences, not the gender differences. I believe that our gender differences come only from biological differences. When we are born, we have blank slate. Therefore, through social civilization we can narrow gender gap.

Often we misunderstand it means we have difference even in role of ourselves. We have been exposed too much to our historical learning. The difference we consider as a gender role is originally resulted from social evolution level. In the past, physical strength was important because it was hunter gatherer or agriculture-based society. In that society, physical power was considered critical factor to survival and it made higher position.

With civilization, our society does not find physical power critical. Our society have been evolved and switched to Industrial society and Knowledge Information society. Rather than physical power, money and knowledge are much more important. To achieve them, physical is not needed any more. Man and woman have only biological difference and it makes little difference in our society. Social difference must be deemed as the individual difference, not the gender difference. Gender difference still we have would go away through gender socialization.
