The Meaning of the Cross
Ang Kahulugan ng Krus
Rom 5:6 “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.”(5:7) “Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.” (5:8)” But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Many people, however, don't know the real meaning of the death and the cross of Jesus Christ and enjoy it on a national holiday.
We must understand the cross of Christ a little more with the Holy week of Christ ahead,
In today’s post-modern and politically correct society, all religions are considered equal.
In truth, most religions in the world do share similar moral codes.
It is that the condition of redemption is a moral virtue.
Is Christianity really any different than the rest?
Ang Kristiyanismo ba ay naiiba sa lahat?
It is different that Christianity stands alone because of one distinction: the Cross
Many religions are based on the basic tenet that Man is constantly working his way to heaven, or Nirvana.
The religion insists, someone is continuously keeping good work for the next life.
In contrast, the cross of Christianity represents God’s atoning work on behalf of sinner.
Buddhism symbolizes the broken cross
Sinisimbolo ng Budismo ang wasak na Krus.
Islam symbolizes the crescent moon (new moon)
Sinisimbolo ng Islam ang gasuklay na buwa.
The cross represents Christianity.
Sinisimbolo ng Kristiyanismo ang Krus.
Only through Christ’ sacrifice do we find grace, forgiveness and salvation.
It is on the cross that we see God's great love for us.
What is the real meaning of the cross?
Ano ang tunay na kahulugan ng Krus?
The meaning of the cross is so deep that it cannot be explained in a few words.
We have to understand the real meaning of a few things today with the Holy week of Christ ahead,
1.The cross is the only way the criminal can be forgiven in the face of God.
Col 1:20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
Crucifixion is the instrument of the Roman Empire to punish
No Roman citizen could be crucified. It was reserved for slavery and the criminal element.
By the way, about half of the population of the Roman Empire were slaves.
But the purpose of crucifixion was a warning to slaves and foreigner.
Plot against Rome and this is how a traitor ends up.
Someone has likened it to a living billboard.
Jesus was not a traitor or a criminal.
He was pure and innocent son of God.
Nevertheless, Jesus was crucified by the Roman Empire and leader of Jew.
But the Crucifixion was not something that Jesus expected to happen.
The cross was foreordained before the foundation of the world.
The book of Revelation describes how Jesus slain the Lamb before the foundation of the world.
God, who knows everything, including the future, knew of man’s sin in advance.
He developed His own plan that the son of God, Jesus, would become man to remedy the problem of man’s sin through the cross.
Isa 53:4 “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.”
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
Why?
Bakit?
왜?
“Because whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
When our evil hearts hated the God of love, when we rebel and go against the great Creator,
Nevertheless, Jesus loved us and died for us, and by His death opened to us the gate of everlasting life!
Therefore we are not saved by good deed or through hard work, but by the cross alone.
2. The Cross is a complete and permanent sacrifice for sinners.
The cross which Jesus was nailed is a sacrifice of complete and eternal atonement
The Jews in the Old Testament took the sheep and cattle before God forgave sins.
We all instinctively know that sin must be punished.
Even Pagan tribes around the world have often sacrificed animals, even humans sometimes -- in order to try and appease the wrath of the gods.
The Old Testament has many explicit directions on how goats and bulls were to be sacrificed to atone for sin--temporarily.
Heb 10:3-4 But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
The Bible states that without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.
How did the cross fulfill this?
But all of those sacrifices presented were fulfilled by Christ on the cross.
Heb 9:12 He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption.
Heb 9:28 So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people;
All of these are foreshadowing of the cross. The cross is the true sacrifice that takes away our sin.
With the cross, all blood-shedding gives way.
The bloody sacrifice of the lamb in the Passover celebration gives way to the non-bloody baptism and the non-bloody bread and the wine.
The Old Testament sacrificing the sheep and bulls gives way to the non-bloody “sacrifice of praise” and thanksgiving that we are to offer unto God because of the cross.
Heb 10:18 there is no longer any sacrifice for sin.
Rom 12:1 To offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship.
We must not forget the sacrifices of Christ on the cross for the eternal sacrifices.
3. Symbol of God's love for sinners
God loves sinner
Mahal ng Diyos ang makasalanan
God did not want sinners to be destroyed.
God is the righteous God. God said that the criminal would die of that sin.
God said to Adam, ' If you disobey the commands of God, you will surely die. '
God said to Moses, “Anyone who violates the commands of the law dies.
But God is the God of love. God don't want sinners to be destroyed.
God cannot tolerate sin, so for the first and only time in all of history, God the Father abandoned God the Son. He broke fellowship.
On the cross, Jesus Christ, the pure, spotless Son of God, became the greatest sinner who ever lived.
All of the guilt of the world was piled upon Him. Christ became the arch-criminal of the universe.
God looked down upon His beloved Son and saw sin and turned His back on Him.
Jesus was abandoned by His Father.
Si Hesus ay inabandona ng Kanyang Ama.
Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" which means, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Matthew 27:46b).
There He hung, quivering with all of the loathsomeness and vileness of sin—alone and abandoned by God.
It was at that moment that Christ carried the sins of this world.
When Christ was skewered to the cross, He became sin for our sake.
Therefore, the cross very well represents God's love for sinners.
1John 4:10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
Being a really good son started when he realized the love of his parents.
Indeed, to become a good Christian starts when we realize the love of God through the cross.
The meaning of the cross is too deep, it can’t be told in a short time.
But today we will remember the three meanings of the cross
First, our only the way of salvation is to believe in the cross of Jesus Christ.
It is not our asceticism, our good deeds, or our Nirvana.
Second, Jesus Christ's cross is the eternal sacrifice that Jesus gave.
We can bravely go forward God due to the cross
Third, the cross is an expression of the love of the great God who loves me as a sinner.
We have hard time sacrificing our money or material for others.
But God has given up his only son to the cross to show how much He loved us.
So we must carry the cross and go after the Lord.
Kaya, kailangan nabuhatin natin ang krus at sundan ang Panginoon.
Mat 10:38) and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.
