Did you buy a new car recently?
No, it’s actually a used one. It’s only a year old.
Was it a good deal?
Yes, I got it for a good price and it only has 15,000miles on it.
I usually don’t trust used cars. You never know how the previous owner took care of it.
I bought this one from a friend of my neighbor. It has a stick shift which I trust more than an automatic transmission.
New cars are really expensive. I couldn’t afford tone with my budget.
And they don’t get any cheaper.
Maybe we should ride horses. It would cut out all those gas service and pollution expenses.
Then we would have to worry about how to pay for what the horse eats!
That would be ideal. It’s too bad that we live so far away from everything.
Well, the world gets smaller and yet in another way it gets bigger. I hope there will be more convenient public transportation in the future.
Sabine finished class at the adult school and headed for the bus stop. As she was walking along the sidewalk, a car pulled up by he curb and a voice came out, “Do you want a ride home?” Sabine looked inside the car and saw her classmates, Michiko from Japan and Mohammed from Afghanistan. “Sure,” she said, “if you don’t mind. I live on the other side of town near the county park.”
“It’s on our way,” Michiko responded, “because I’m taking Mohammed to the dentist near there,” because I’m taking Mohammed to the dentist near there.”
Sabine got in and they drove off until the first intersection where the car stopped and the engine went dead. Michiko tried the ignition but it wouldn’t turn over. “Oh, no, we’re stuck,” she said dejectedly[12] to the others. “Could you push the car to the other side of the road and to that gs station up ahead?”
They pushed the car through the light traffic to the front of the gas station where Mohammed offered to have a look under the hood first. “Do you know a lot about cars?” Sabine asked.
Mohammed shrugged his shoulders and said, “Very little but it’s worth a try.” He then proceeded to push and pull several wires and loosen and tighten other things, but in the end the car still didn’t work. Michiko went over to the mechanic in the gas station and explained the problem to him.
Sabine and Mohammed said good bye to Michiko and began to walk to the bus stop. They talked about their upcoming[13] class party. Michiko called her son’s nursery school and explained that she would be late. Then she had the hard task of calling her husband to tell him that the car had another problem. He always blew his top[14] when he heard bad news about their car which he thought was a real lemon.[15]
