One More Chew
JuAh. Sang Cho Rey
If only he had taken one more chew
There would have been no tragedy like this.
It's so painful that I want to die, but I can't because it's unfair.
Sharing and eating rice balls in the field
I was on my way back home with my mom and dad.
A man collapsed on the street and was dying of hunger.
Mom told Dad to just pretend not to know him and go.
My father said he couldn't be heartless to a dying person and asked mom to give him a piece of rice and go.
All we had to do was throw him a lump of rice ball and come home.
The next day a man died.
He died without being able to swallow the entire lump of rice he was eating.
The next day, people wearing armbands appeared and gathered the villagers to find the person who fed him.
If they didn't find them, they were ready to kill everyone in the town.
My aunt pointed out my father.
My father desperately said no.
There was such a scary atmosphere there that no one could even hear their breathing.
Even though my mother said it wasn't my father,
the men wearing armbands beat my father to death with a pickax, and stabbed my mother in the waist with a bamboo spear,
but despite all the hardships, she survived.
Many people in the neighborhood were killed by those wearing the armbands.
People in the Dol-San Valley area of Jeju Island take their breath away just by looking at the white color on the shoulder.
After that, my aunt and mother lived a life more terrifying than that of an enemy, and then both passed away from this harsh world.
I don't want to see letters 4 and 3 and I don't want to read or write them either.
The year my father died, I was 5 years old, and for over 70 years, my left and right atrium have been crying with longing and hatred.
Those rice balls! If only taken one more chew. . .
Seo-Buk-Chung-Nyen Dang! What are they doing in hell now? @
