주간묵상 26-32

<천국사다리>

하나님께서 말씀하신다.

“꼭 한 가지만 이루어 주겠다.

무엇을 원하느냐?”

“예, 감사합니다.

천국까지 오르내릴 수 있는

사다리 하나 놓아 주십시오.

천국을 직접 보고 돌아와

사람들에게 증거하면

모두 믿게 되고,

나도 기쁨과 소망이

충만해질 것입니다.”

“그것은 너무 어려우니

다른 것을 구하여라.”

“그러면

사람들의 얼굴만 보아도

그 속마음을 알 수 있는

영안을 열어 주십시오.

하나님께서 잠시 생각하시더니

말씀하신다.

“천국까지 왕래하는

초고속 엘리베이터를

만들어 주겠다.

그것이 차라리 쉽겠구나.”

유머를 만들어

믿음을 풍자해 본다.

가난한 사람은 부자가 되기를,

병든 사람은 치유되기를,

소외된 사람은 높아지기를 원한다.

복권 한 장을 사 놓고

밤새 기도하는 사람도?

교회를 개척할 때

아는 목사님이 말씀하셨다.

“기도를 많이 하여

성령의 능력을 받고,

대학병원에서도 고치지 못하는 병을

안수하여 낫게 하면

교회 부흥은

땅 짚고 헤엄치기야.”

그러나 나는 기도로

내 감기 하나도 고치지 못했다.

어떤 날은 내 기도보다

아스피린이 더 능력이 있는 것 같았다.

역설적인 표현을 이해 바랍니다.

하나님께서는 이미

필요한 많은 것을 다주셨다.

다만 우리는

주신 것을 알지 못하여

기적을 구할 때가 많다.

하나님은

보물찾기를 좋아하시는 듯하다.

가장 귀한 보물을

가장 눈에 띄지 않는 곳에

감추어 놓으셨기 때문이다.

사람들은 높은 곳을 바라보지만

하나님은 낮은 곳에 감추셨고,

사람들은 영광을 구하지만

하나님은 고난 속에 감추셨으며,

사람들은 성공을 찾지만

하나님은 십자가 아래

생명의 길을 놓아두셨다.

과연 나는

무엇을 원하고 있는가?

딱 한 가지 소원,

십자가만 바라보게 하옵소서!

〈A Ladder to Heaven〉

God says,

“I will grant you

one—and only one—request.

What do you desire?”

“Yes, thank You.

Please set up a ladder

that reaches all the way to heaven.

If I could climb up,

see heaven with my own eyes,

and return to testify about it,

everyone would believe,

and I, too, would be filled

with joy and hope.”

“That would be far too difficult.

Ask for something else.”

“Then please open

my spiritual eyes,

so that merely by looking

at people’s faces,

I may know

what lies within their hearts.”

God pauses for a moment,

then replies,

“I will build you

a high-speed elevator

that travels back and forth

all the way to heaven.

That would be easier.”

I have made up this humorous story

to satirize our faith.

The poor long to become rich,

the sick long to be healed,

and the overlooked long

to be lifted high.

There may even be someone

who buys a lottery ticket

and prays over it all night.

When I was planting a church,

a pastor I knew once told me,

“Pray fervently,

receive the power of the Holy Spirit,

and if, by laying on hands,

you heal diseases

that even university hospitals cannot cure,

church growth will be

as easy as pie.”

Yet through prayer,

I could not cure

even my own common cold.

Some days,

aspirin seemed more powerful

than my prayers.

Please take this

in the paradoxical spirit intended.

God has already given us

so many things that we need.

Yet because we fail to recognize

what He has given,

we often go searching

for miracles.

God seems to delight

in treasure hunts,

for He has hidden

the most precious treasures

in the least noticeable places.

People look toward the heights,

but God has hidden His treasure

in the lowly places.

People seek glory,

but God has hidden it

within suffering.

People search for success,

but beneath the cross

God has laid

the path of life.

What, then, do I truly desire?

I have only one request:

“Lord, let my eyes be fixed

on the cross alone!”
