 and as we wander with high spirits,
 about us always flutters a childlike delight,

 and thinking comfortably on this and that,
 and magically banishing those things that depress us
 while invoking those things in which our hearts delight.

- 앨범 시리즈 제5권의 부제는 
'슈베르트와 전원(Schubert and the Countryside)'인데, 
그레이엄 존슨은 해설지에서 이 음반의 곡들을 상징하는 그림으로 
레오폴드 쿠펠바이저의 수채화 소품인 '슈베르트와 친구들의 소풍 
(Landpartie der Schubertianer)'을 들고 있다.

- 이 그림은 1820년 슈베르트가 다뉴브 강 남쪽의 아첸부르크(Atzenburgg)에서 며칠간 여름 휴가를 보내면서, 
아첸부르크에서 아우뮬(Aumuhle)이란 시골로 친구들과 마차를 타고 떠난 소풍 장면을 그린 것이다. 
산업혁명의 조짐이 보이던 대도시 비엔나를 떠나, 자연의 고요함과 평온함 속에서 작곡의 영감을 얻었던 
것으로 보고 있다(3년 후에 작곡된 '아름다운 물방앗간 아가씨'의 분위기를 미리 감지할 수도 있다고도 한다). 
슈베르트 자신은 일반적인 신앙이 깊거나 한 사람은 아니었지만, 프란츠 폰 브루흐만 같은 몇몇 친구들, 
또 피히테나 셸링 같은 당대 철학자들의 글을 통해, '자연을 통해 드러나는 신의 존재'에 대한 경외감을 
가지고 있어서, 아직 오염되지 앉은 숲과 시냇물, 하늘과 그 속에서 느껴지는 신의 섭리를 노래를 통해 
그려내고 있다. 

- 엘리자베스 코넬(1946-)은 바그너나 리하르트 슈트라우스의 드라마틱한 배역을 잘 불렀던 소프라노로, 
이 음반에서도 목가적인 느낌의 잔잔한 노래보다는 극적인 표현력이 요구되는 곡(예컨대 '전능하신 분') 
에서 더 돋보이고 있다.

봄이면 꼭 한번은 듣고 넘어가야 하는 곡이죠.
오랫만에 음악이 들려서 좋아요.
