Possibility of smallpox epidemic in
21 century
Recurrence of smallpox is a reality
Family physician MD. Marshal Yun
"From some time in
the future, there will be no smallpox, but eventually it will break out again,
and when it does it will be widespread. At that time, be aware that a truly
catastrophic disease is about break out."
This saying was mentioned by Jeung-san
Sahng-jeh-nim, at 1908 , when there was smallpox epidemic in Korea.
The
practitioners of Jeung San Do believe Jeung-san
Sahng-jeh-nim as the ruling God of all universe, who came in human, personified and embodied. In his human life, he was known to have conducted a
spiritual work called Chun-jee-gohng-sa, the work of renewing heaven and earth
from 1901 to 1909. It is well known that in his 9 years of work, Sahng-jeh-nim had suffered all diseases on behalf of humanity
and by finding the correct treatment, successfully removed the qi of all
diseases. Smallpox, one of them. 1)
72 years later, On 8th of May 1980, during the
Thirty-Third World Health Assembly, smallpox was declared to have been
eradicated. This event was known to be the greatest achievement of the modern
medical science. It was the "Triumph over the Most Terrible of the Ministers of
Death." 2)
Smallpox strikes back?
But party did not
last long, because smallpox virus had never been eradicated, though WHO had
declared they have. On the contrary, smallpox virus had been upgraded, ever
since WHO had declared it's termination.
Recent
allegations from Ken Alibek, a former deputy director of the Soviet
Union's civilian bioweapons program, have heightened concern that
smallpox
might be used as a bioweapon. Alibek reported that beginning in 1980,
the Soviet government embarked on a successful program to produce the
smallpox
virus in large quantities and adapt it for use in bombs and
intercontinental ballistic missiles; the program had an industrial
capacity capable of producing many tons of
smallpox
virus annually.
3)
After the attacks
of Anthrax bioterrorism on September and October, 2001, Department of
Defense and State Department Personnel
have
heightened concern that terrorists may have access to the smallpox virus and
attempt to use it against the American public.
On December 13,
2002, President Bush announced a plan to better protect the American people
against the threat of smallpox attack by hostile groups or governments.
During January 24th to February 21st, 2003,
smallpox vaccine was administered to 7,354 civilian health care and public
health workers in 40 jurisdictions.4)
Outbreak of smallpox epidemic is no longer a
history. It is a reality. Smallpox had already shown her first step by the name
of vaccination and we are about to observe its comeback stage in this 21th century as it was mentioned 100 years ago.
