He said the ministry is working with Cambodia on scheduling the meeting which is expected to take place this month. Gen Yutthasak said the meeting's framework has been discussed with the Foreign Ministry which would also join the Thai delegation to the GBC meeting in Cambodia.
The defence minister's comments followed a Cambodian news report the Cambodian defence ministry had sent an invitation to its Thai counterpart to attend the GBC meeting. According to the news report by Cambodia's CEN news agency, the invitation, signed by Cambodian Defence Minister Tea Banh, was sent through the Thai ambassador to Cambodia on Tuesday. The meeting was scheduled for Dec 20-25 in Phnom Penh. The International Court of Justice's order on the border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia might be on the agenda, the report said.
Gen Yutthasak said Thailand is preparing to replace troops with border patrol police but this is not yet finalised. He suggested that each side deploy no more than 400 personnel. He said even though the Thai troops would be withdrawn, they should be ready to support police.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Thani Thongphakdee said yesterday the framework for the next GBC meeting has been finalised and is awaiting the prime minister's approval. Mr Thani also said Thai authorities are working with their Cambodian counterparts to send a Thai medical team to examine the health of yellow shirt activist Veera Somkwamkid, who is in a Phnom Penh jail for illegal entry and espionage, as he is suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. Veera was hospitalised after his condition worsened

프놈펜에서 12월 20~25일 개최 제안
Cambodia's Ministry of Defense has sent a letter to Thailand's Defense Minister Gen. Yuthasak Sasiprapa to propose the 8th Cambodia-Thailand General Border Commission (GBC) on Dec. 20-25 in Phnom Penh, Lt. Gen. Chhum Socheat, spokesman for Cambodian Ministry of Defense, confirmed on Wednesday.

The letter, signed by Cambodia's Minister of Defense Gen. Tea Banh (pictured), was sent to the Embassy of Thailand to Cambodia on Nov. 29, the spokesman said. "Now we're waiting for the reply from the Thai side for the proposed schedule of the meeting," he said.
The upcoming meeting will focus on strengthening security along the border by cracking down on cross border crimes and other offensive activities, he said.
Also, the two ministers will discuss troop withdrawals from the provisional demilitarized zone (PDZ) of about 17 kilometers near Preah Vihear temple to comply with the order of the International Court of Justice.
Cambodia and Thailand have had sporadic border conflict over territorial dispute near Cambodia's Preah Vihear temple since the UNESCO listed the temple as a World Heritage Site on July 7, 2008.
On July 18, the International Court of Justice ordered Cambodia and Thailand to immediately withdraw their military personnel from the provisional demilitarized zone on the disputed border near Preah Vihear temple and to allow ASEAN observers access to the provisional demilitarized zone to monitor ceasefire.
The border tension has eased since the opposition Pheu Thai Party won a victory in Thailand's lower house election on July 3. (PNA/Xinhua)
