9. Wind over Heaven : Small Restraint.
▣ Nine in the fifth Place : Sincerity and trust bind tightly together;
one shares wealth with neighboring partners.
[Explanation]
[Nine in the fifth Place] possesses sincerity and trust,
Just as one bent arm relies on and connects with the other,
he attracts and supports his neighbor, sharing prosperity with them.
[Commentary]
[Nine in the fifth Place] holds central power with strength, integrity, and sincerity.
He wins over [Sixin the Fourth Place]―who strives for small achievements(Xiaoxu)―
by offering wholehearted trust and devotion.
Among the five male figures, [Nine in the fifth Place] is the most influential ruler.
To share wealth and prosperity with neighbors, [Nine in the fifth Place] must attract
[Six in the Fourth Place] using strong powers of persuasion.
There is no better foundation than power and resourcefulness to win over a key ally like
[Six in the Fourth Place] (representing a subordinate, partner, or woman).
Few can resist such compelling leadership.
Politcally, [Six in the Fourth Place] is a capable minister,
while [Nine in the fifth Place] is a strong and wise ruler.
When a minister serves with trust and sincerity and the sovereign receives them in kind,
they share mutual prosperity.
A classic example is Liu Bei inspiring Zhuge Liang,
forming a bond as harmonious as a fish taking to water.
Zhuge Liang subsequently dedicated his life to the state.
This exemplary ruler-minister relationship is famously passed down through anecdotes
like Three Visits to the Thatched Cottage(三顧草廬,삼고초려) and The Entrustment
at Baidi City (白帝托孤,백제탁고).
deeply and pulling hearts together means not monopolizing wealth for oneself]".
Confucius notes that a wise monarch uses wealth not for personal gain,
but to assist and bring people together.
Dasan Jeong Yak-yong(다산 정약용) : Uniquely interprets this by viewing
[Six in the Fourth Piace] as having a broken arm,
and [Nine in the Fifth Place] as reaching out with a bent arm to connect and offer aid.
Asan(아산) : Sees this as a powerful force [手,수 - Hand] pulling with sincere emotion
Mind].
